BAGHDAD (AFP) - A US soldier was killed in a firefight with insurgents near the Iraqi city of Baquba on Friday evening, a US military spokeswoman said.

"A 1st Infantry Division soldier died on June 18 after anti-Iraqi forces engaged his unit with small arms fire at about 7:00 pm (1500 GMT) near Baquba," she said.

"The soldier was evacuated to a nearby medical facility where he later died."

The soldier's name is being withheld until his next of kin are informed, she added.

2. If they had been anti-Iraqi forces
they would have been shooting Iraqis. It sounds to me as if they are "anti-American." Or, in deference to Orwell, "anti-coalition."

One more needless victim created by the war machine. RIP, soldier.

Iraq the information is being supressed. We are not hearing about what is going on. There are no longer pictures of fighting, and the body count is in action only. The number in the article has to be 300 less than where the body count is now. Don't count anything but killed in action, and the others just don't count. Don't count if you wounded and die later. They have done this in such a sly manner. Take over all information released from Iraq, and let less and less out. No one will complain or notice. Tnat is why people think things are going better over there.
