FEDS: 'ARMY OF GOD' BOSS SHOULD GET LIFE TERM

By JIM SMITH

Federal prosecutors in Philadelphia contend that anti-abortion "Army of God" founder Clayton Lee Waagner must be sentenced to life in prison for his "war of terror" against women's clinics.

A jury convicted Waagner in December of threatening to use weapons of mass destruction by sending anthrax-hoax letters stuffed with threats and white powder to dozens of abortion clinics in the eastern half of the United States.

Waagner, 47, a North Dakota native who was an escaped convict living near Pittsburgh when the threats were mailed in October and November of 2001, is to be sentenced June 25 by U.S. District Judge Anita B. Brody in Philadelphia.

2. I wonder if Ashcroft will demand that they push for the death penalty?
He's demanding the federal prosecutors push for the death penalty even if they don't feel it appropriate or likely to be supported by juries.

But I guess abortion providers don't count as humans.

(for the record I am against the death penalty in all cases, but these guys' hypocrisy just keeps on ticking...)

5. I don't think this guy actually killed anyone
So no death penalty. I'm opposed to the death penalty in all circumstances, so life w/out parole is good enough for me. I'm sure the only reason he didn't kill anyone was his own ineptness and inability to get his hands on any real anthrax.

6. Ah, such reverence for life!!

His threatening letters not only terrorized clinic workers but also put great strain on the nation's emergency response network that was "already stretched thin" after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

"I am the anti-abortion extremist, a terrorist to the abortion industry," Waagner had acknowledged during his closing speech to the jury, the prosecutors noted.

"I love what happened here," he'd added, while denying his own involvement.

"It tickles me that this action was effective enough that two years later, these people are still scared," added Waagner.

Another factor is Waagner's "abysmal criminal record," the prosecutors said.

His rap sheet shows 11 prior felony convictions for crimes including larceny, drugs, burglary, assault and guns and he has spent much of his adult life behind bars.

Moran. :dunce:

CLAYTON LEE WAAGNER'S ESCAPE CLAUSE:

How Low Level Support Personnel Can Escape Death

(11/25/2001, Christian Gallery News Service) On November 23, 2001, Clayton Lee Waagner, one of the FBI's 10 Most Wanted fugitives, without warning, notice or invitation showed up in my home because he wanted to use me to relay a message to people who work in the abortion industry in the United States.

Clayton Waagner says he has precisely targeted 42 specific abortion workers around the U.S. that he intends to kill. He made it clear he is not referring solely to abortionists but has included people representing the entire spectrum of abortion employees from abortionists to the people who might not consider themselves as abortion employees at all.

What follows is a transcript of excerpts from the interview I taped with Clayton Waagner when he was in my home. Because the interview was unexpected, professional recording equipment was not available. Therefore, portions of the recording were garbled. Such glitches are noted. Several subjects were discussed in the interview. In this short excerpt, Clayton Waagner talks about his plan to give the 42 abortion employees he has targeted a way to escape from his bullets or bombs:

Waagner: I'm going to stop them. I've already stopped a bunch and I'm going to stop more. What I've done is I'm going to give them one more chance. I want to give them people some which is to stop. I know I can't kill them all. But I have a list of 42 and this is to that 42: I know where you live; I know what you drive; I actually don't know all your names, but I've got your car license and I've followed you home, so I've got your street address. Because of the computer stuff, I've got some of them that I was able to cross check the street address and get your name and phone number, but I'll never call. Now I have that data. I don’t have to search for it anymore. I got it. 42 is a lot. If I kill 42 people, by golly I'm going to get some attention.
