Democrats, Interrupted: Kerry Campaign Rocks On
<The Kerry campaign and the Democratic National Committee have rescheduled two fund-raising concerts that were supposed to happen this week -- but were postponed because of President Ronald Reagan's death.

The Los Angeles concert, starring Barbra Streisand, Neil Diamond, Willie Nelson and Billy Crystal, will now take place on June 24. And the roster of performers for the July 8 concert in New York will be announced next week.

"So many people came together to make this a success for John Kerry and the Democratic Party and that spirit of teamwork and unity has made it possible to reschedule these two events so quickly."

"Everyone across the country is so excited about John Kerry's candidacy and his positive vision for the future of our nation," said DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe. "People are coming together to help him and the Democratic Party win in November in unprecedented ways, working together for our shared goal of a stronger America.

"That is why it was so easy to make a relatively seamless transition to new dates for our Los Angeles and New York events once we made the decision to reschedule the show."

One of the producers of the Los Angeles concert is Harvey Weinstein, co-chair of Miramax. Weinstein also is helping the Kerry campaign by making sure that Michael Moore's Bush-bashing film, Farenheit 9/11, is distributed in the U.S.>

1. Good
I was hoping these were going to be rescheduled. It's a good thing too. There are a lot of people involved with these events that would bring them a lot of publicity. If they had gone ahead with them during the week of Reagapalooza they would have gone right under the radar. Glad to hear that they've been rescheduled.

2. Billy Crystal!
I wasn't aware Billy was going to participate in these concerts. I already liked him a lot, but this--plus Susan Stamberg's interview with him the other day on NPR's "Morning Edition"--make me like him even more.

3. That seems to be a reasonably straightforward
presentation of the facts. But it should be noted that the above source is VERY far to the right. They try to present themselves as as a sort of "no-nonsense, family-values, middle of the road, conservative" site, but a close inspection of the other articles will show what I mean. I'll double-check it later, but I think Scaife had his mitts in that outfit.

Of course, perhaps even THEY are sensing that Dubya is in deep trouble, and getting deeper. Perhaps they're just coppering their bets.

4. Question---the money that will now be raised between here and
the convention-----am I correct that all of it will have to be spent before Kerry accepts the nomination or not be able to be used??? It would seem to me that if that is the case, we are going to have one great, swinging hot July as the nation is bombarded with Kerry ads. I often thought he should start attacking Bush, even with Bush' troubles. But now it seems that Kerry's "very presidential type" ads are walking all over Bush. I'm starting to get rather pumped up.

5. If Kerry hasn't seen the movie staring Streisand's, husband Jim Brolin
as Ronald Reagan, he should.

The nefariousness of the players are all layed out in the movie Streisand produced depicting Reagan's presidency. Baker and that whole crew...(Bush standing in the shadows), vainly attempting to subvert and discredit Reagan's presidency by generating the Iran/Contra Scandal.

I'm sick of some antisemitic liberals who equate all Jews with Sharon and Paul Wolfowitz.

I hope MM's film is the final nail in the coffin of *.

7. This has been a blip and not a bad one
The dignified Kerry looks better than Bush in the midst of this quieting mourning.

Princess Di Reagan's funeral is not. The poor man had suffered and been absent for years.

In fact, a lot of significant issues have come up that the Right wing should not and did not want raised at all. Memories work a lot of ways. So do comparisons.

People wanted Reagan because first they wanted simply a change and Reagan looked good enough to fulfill that negative need. Looking at Bush, stubbornly stumbling and offending in one dire mess after another, with not even an inch of rational flexibility for stem cell research, they remember that choice mood- and invoke a prayer for change.

Morning not mourning in America. Or Bush will have a lot more funerals going on of very premature and needless deaths worldwide.
