Spain Insists Troops Won't Return to Iraq
MADRID, Spain -- Spanish troops that withdrew from Iraq will not return under any international mandate, the foreign minister said Wednesday, a day after the United Nations endorsed a multinational force as part of a plan to restore Iraqi sovereignty.

"Spain will not send troops to Iraq, neither unilaterally nor as part of a multinational force, nor as part of a NATO force," minister Miguel Angel Moratinos told a press conference.

"Spain will not have any presence in Iraq because we're convinced that the best way of speeding up the process of stabilization of Iraq is that foreign occupation forces withdraw from Iraq," Moratinos added.

1. Good for Spain!
I'm liking Zapatero more and more. He must know that the Iraqi Interim Govt is full of US stooges who will bend to US whims against the welfare of their people. It's like having the Shah of Iran as a committee of crooks.

4. I think you're right.
There's a huge chasm between what they say and what actually happens in Iraq. There's lots of cheering, glasses clinking together, "we've got so much support!!!" and then----nothing.

The State Department is teaching us that there is no substance to their talk.
