A jet carrying 308 passengers was forced to make an emergency landing in Ireland on Sunday, after fruit fumes set off its fire alarm system.

The British Airways Boeing 747 en route from Miami to London Heathrow landed at Shannon Airport, after a warning light indicated there was a fire in the hold.

An airport spokeswoman said a closer examination found that rotting fruit was giving off unusual fumes.

6. If this "gassy fruit" led to a forced emergency landing, wouldn't you

expect the press to describe in detail what it actually was?

How many billions of pounds of fruit have been transported via plane world-wide, over the decades, and yet we are supposed to believe that one cargo of "gassy fruit" was enough to force an emergency landing? When did the fruit start "rotting"? Before, during or after it was loaded onto the plane? Something is very stinky about this "news"..
