Arabs say U.S. offering Iraq sham sovereignty
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L25621327.htm

CAIRO, May 25 (Reuters) - Ordinary Arabs and commentators said on Tuesday the United States was offering a sham sovereignty in Iraq by pushing a U.N. resolution for a handover of power without setting a date for withdrawing U.S. troops.

Many also dismissed U.S. President George W. Bush's proposals to demolish Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison, saying removing the building would not erase the images of U.S. abuses. Some said the jail, also notorious for torture under Saddam Hussein, should be kept as a monument to those who suffered there.

Washington asked on Monday for U.N. endorsement for a handover of power to an interim Iraqi government on June 30 and proposed U.S. forces be allowed to "take all measures" to keep order. It did not say when U.S. forces would leave.

"The American administration has a plan to give the Iraqi people fake sovereignty and according to this plan Washington controls the process of forming a transitional government in Baghdad...," Qatar's al-Watan newspaper wrote. "And under another name, U.S. occupation forces will remain in Iraq."

1. Gee, Bush can't win for losing. Or surrendering.
Hehehe.

The world sees the emperor's nudity, and it looks like Americans are starting wonder about that thing dangling out front, too.

2. Last night * said "full" sovereignty. Not partial sovereignty..
If he delivers anything less than full sovereignty he's toast.

3. Sounds like they actually read the resolution,...
,...which is ambiguously worded with ambiguous contingencies throughout. It's a typical neocon creation that allows the US to drag this thing, this "sovereignty", out for a very long time.

4. "sovereignty lite"
Better tasting. Less filling. :puke:

They can have it as long as it's "privatized." :eyes:

5. In other words:
There's an old saying in Tennessee -- I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee -- that says, fool me once, shame on -- shame on you. Fool me -- you can't get fooled again.
