GOP: We’ll crash party: Repubs want equal time if Kerry snubs nomination
WASHINGTON - President Bush's campaign yesterday threatened to hold four days of campaign rallies to yank the media spotlight from Boston's Democratic National Convention if Sen. John F. Kerry delays accepting his party's nomination.
``Certainly, we would give strong consideration that there be (Bush) rallies all four nights of their four-day political rally in Boston, should Kerry decide to delay his nomination,'' said Bush campaign spokesman Steve Schmidt.
The Kerry camp, already catching flak from some party officials complaining the delay could render the Hub event irrelevant, brushed off the Bush threat.
``We would expect that the Bush campaign is going to try and run counter-activities during the convention,'' said Kerry campaign spokesman Michael Meehan.

I envision something unlike the Freeper counter-rally in DC before the war when some 25 - 30 people showed up compared to hundreds of thousands of anti-war marchers.

21. But let's be honest about the math...
There's one Freeper in the group with slightly below-average intelligence and the rest are simply brain-dead.

3. i think there will be a lot more than Democrats crashing that party...
I expect there will be people from all politcal walks (and possibly even some of those durned furreigners) there. Man if I was even remotely close to North America I'd go down to New York and protest.

and put together very vocal protests making it clear that 3,000 American deaths shouldn't be used as political capital.

4. I don't get it
Why would delaying accepting the nomination make it irrelevant? It seems to me that it would make it more relevant. They are irrelevant now! Nothing really happens they're just be get-togethers. Weren't they more relevant years ago when the conventions were used to actually nominate the candidate for president?

And what the hell is the GOP talking about? Their convention will be on the tube just like the Democratic convention - equal time? WTF?

28. They've also managed to delay when they normally have their
convention...to have it coincide with the 9/11 anniversary.

7. Can you believe these people?
"If Kerry opts for delay, the Bush campaign would seek to blunt media coverage of the July 26-29 Boston convention by demanding TV networks abide by federal laws requiring equal time for both parties, a Republican source said."

The talking heads on ABC yesterday were livid about Kerry's suggestion that he might delay his acceptance. They actually mentioned the Fairness Doctrine. The Fairness Doctrine that's been dead for what, ten years?

I wasn't sure about this plan of Kerry's until I heard the conservative pundits whining and calling it the "worst idea the Kerry campaign ever came up with". Then I knew he had hit gold.

The priceless whine came from William Safire. He said, "Once again, the Democrats make everything about money."

LOL! :D

11. Yes, Repubs had planned on their money advantage, and Kerry
screwed it up for them, or might, if he delays the acceptance.

I heard some radio person last night going on about this, claiming you could just throw logic out the window when it came to Democrats. They are rallying the troops to confuse people.

All this feigned outrage and confusion is meant to force Kerry to try to explain it to people, which would make Kerry look like he's focusing too much on money. Repubs are hoping this makes Kerry look bad. Kerry would be smart to not make a deal about it. Most people wouldn't notice the difference at the rally. Kerry would just leave out the "I accept the nomination" line, and nothing would change.

It could backfire on the Repubs, though. If Kerry has to talk, so do the Republicans, and then it comes out that they moved their own convention first.

...was even mention of the fact that the lag between the Dem and Repuke convention is because BUSH moved the GOP convention to coincide with 9-11 -- his big moment of "glory."

15. Here is my well-thought-out opinion.
Say Kerry reconsiders his (IMO) ill-advised suggestion that he delay acceptance. Here's the facts as I see them.

Kerry gets $75 mil. Bush gets his $75 mil five weeks later. For five weeks (more or less), Kerry stops paying to get his face on TV. Instead, he goes on a bus tour - a REAL one, where he does a 30 minute stop every two hours. The point? LOW COST, with a lot of the grunt work done by local volunteers (heck, I'd take a day off if Kerry showed up in my town). The key question - just how pervasive are Kerry's grass roots? Would the ex-Deanies show up to lend a hand?

At that rate, he'd get 4-6 of these stops per day, and could hit each and every one of the 50 states at least once.

The point is, the handicap of having to stretch that $75 mil. can be overcome without having to render the convention - which is all about Kerry accepting the nomination (do you think folks will watch just to hear Sen. Clinton talk?) - irrelevant. Last I checked, those conventions are rather expensive, and if Kerry isn't going to show up, the DNC is wasting a shitload of money.

17. Do you think folks are sick of being overwhelmed by media ads?
The last political advice I got in my organization was to emphasize personal contact. Media ads and literature stuck under the screen door are not going to do it.

That would suggest is that your bus tour is a better idea. It would generate headlines in all the small and medium-sized towns where the bus goes. Curious citizens would come out to see the candidate.

24. What bites my ass is that the republicans are bitching about.....
Kerry trying to level the playing field concerning $$, when their fookin side has been collecting money since June of 2003 with planning going back much further.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/2003-04-14-bush-campaign-_x.htm

http://www.commondreams.org/views03/0627-01.htm

Remember when they bitched about Big Dogs campaigning. Well chimpy and crew make any effort by BC look like damn amatuers. So where is their bitching now. Oh, thats right, its ok for their side but not ok for ours.

Chimpy and crew have been on the money making trail at least 12 months with planning going back much further. And mostly on our dime as the shitheads arranged most events to coincide with goverment functions so they didn't have pay the normal cost associated with getting where you need to be. That puts us at a disadvantage from the get go.

Now I don't begrudge the incumbent the advantage of using his office to do fund raising. I am however fookin tired of them bitching about our side efforts to level the playing field. Our side has been collecting $$ for what, maybe 6 months?

The republicans whinning is starting to set my teeth on edge. I guess the view is that if they don't have 5x more money then we do then the race is not fair to their side.

What a bunch of fookin losers
