KABUL, May 24 (Reuters) - A Norwegian soldier was killed and another slightly wounded when a rocket-propelled grenade hit their vehicle in the Afghan capital, the first attack of its kind on the NATO-led peacekeeping force.

Three grenades were fired at a Norwegian convoy of four vehicles late on Sunday, one of them striking the front car and causing the casualties, Lieutenant-General Rick Hillier, commander of the peacekeepers, said on Monday.

Another three explosions rocked the scene of the attack at around 11 p.m. (1830 GMT), two-and-a-half hours after the initial rounds were fired. The two series of explosions may have been remotely triggered, ISAF officials said.

Hamid Agha, a spokesman claiming to represent the ousted Taliban regime now fighting foreign troops, said it had carried out the attack and vowed to step up the violence. snip

"The Taliban have been advised to take every opportunity to target foreign forces and carry out suicide attacks," Agha said.
