Briton Jailed in Ehiopa for Child Sex Abuse

9 years hard labour in an Ethiopian jail.....it's not enough, but it's a damn good start IMHO:

"A British paedophile exposed by the Guardian for abusing orphans of the Ethiopian famine was yesterday jailed for nine years with hard labour by a court in Addis Ababa after an apparent attempt to open another centre for children in Zambia.

David Christie, 62, was found guilty of abusing boys under 15 and of procuring boys for his friends...

Christie had been living in the UK when he was arrested on an international warrant in Lusaka, the Zambian capital, and was in the process being flown to the UK when he was arrested by Ethiopian authorities who took him off a transit flight bound for London."

I saw a documentary once about wealthy British and American sex tourists whose "vacations" included sex with children for pay. It was disheartening.

I've just been in Thailand and it's reputation is a little undeserved.

Yes, there is a long-standing tradition of Thai men using prostitutes (whilst the women are supposed to remain pure until marriage, of course) but in fact the sex trade in Thailand is (generally speaking) more "open" and "honest" than in some other places.

I don't have the stats to hand, but I seem to recall that Cambodia is one of the worst places for child prostitution, but I also believe that the US has more child prostitutes than Thailand.

Thailand certainly has a bad reputation for the sex trade, but from what I've read it's less exploitative than a lot of places....
