DeLay Links U.S. War, Mideast Conflict

WASHINGTON -- House Majority Leader Tom DeLay said Monday the war in Iraq and Israel's battle against Palestinian terrorists are two fronts in the same global conflict, "and we will win it."

"The survival of Israel is essential to America's victory in the war on terror, and America's victory in the war on terror is essential to Israel's survival," the Texas Republican told the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.

"We will never leave their side."

snip.....

DeLay, by contrast, made a ringing defense of Bush's conduct of the war, and linked Israel's struggle to the war in Iraq.

He called the president "the greatest friend of Israel in the world today."

"It was President Bush who realized Yasser Arafat had no intention of seeking peace, and therefore cut him off from any further negotiations, isolating him as the terrorist he is," DeLay said. "It was President Bush who understood that the war America was waging against terrorism was the same war Israel had been fighting for decades."

snip......

"We are told Israel's decision to target leaders of those terrorist organizations that target her citizens only puts the Israeli people at greater risk," he said.

"We are told the war on terror -- whether waged by the United States and our coalition of the willing or by the people of Israel -- was a mistake, is a quagmire and will be a regret.

"Ladies and gentleman, we are told ... wrongly."

2. Oh boy they ARE DESPERATE
Now linking bush to sharon?

Delay is truly smoking something....

Free clue bugman... the Mid East Crisis in Israel has very little to do with AQ, if at all. But what you are doing will ensure that it is linked.

Oh and one more thing... what you are getting a hard on over that dance of death now existing between the Israelis and the Palestinians?

SAD

25. Knesset speech
Tom DeLay spoke before the Knesset about 18 months ago. His outrageous statements got little notice in the States, but in Israel, he was calling for the death and destruction of arabs and palestinians. Even the most conservative, war-hawk, anti arab jews were taken aback by his words. What made it worse was his self-promotion that he was speaking for the White House.

This man is insane, if one takes the time to go through DSM -IV, at least. His belief that his and only his religion is correct, that his god will prevail, that the world is flat, DNA is planned by god and abortion is a sin, while the death penalty is god's will - and we think suicide bombers are crazy?

I really hope he is indicted and is removed from Congress. the man is a menace.

I am amazed he is not yet in some kind of institution, whether it be for the mentally impaired or the criminally insane.

6. What in the World is DeLay talking about here:
"We are told the war on terror -- whether waged by the United States and our coalition of the willing or by the people of Israel -- was a mistake, is a quagmire and will be a regret.

"Ladies and gentleman, we are told ... wrongly."

anyone know what exactly he means by saying this?

11. He said that even though people were talking about how
horrible things were in Iraq, it didn't matter, because the war was "glorious" and then went so far as to suggest that our country was chosen by God to lead this fight against terror--by bringing Democracy to "every corner of the planet", effectively declaring "eventual war" on every country that isn't a Democracy.

(I saw the whole speech earlier. Catch it on the CSPAN site on replay later. I'm pretty damn close to what he was saying.)

20. Thanks, Khephra...
"and then went so far as to suggest that our country was chosen by God to lead this fight against terror--by bringing Democracy to "every corner of the planet", effectively declaring "eventual war" on every country that isn't a Democracy."

So, basically we are back to the times of the Christian Crusades.

Eastern Fundamentalism meets Western Fundamentalism.

The one and only thing republicans care about is money. Oil is money.
They have it, we want it, and we're prepared to kill you to get it.

Edited on Mon May-17-04 06:11 PM by phoebe
It escalates an all ready volatile situation in Iraq and the Middle East. An immediate rhetoric "cease fire" is in order.

9. I don't know why people are (once again) phrasing their responses in terms
of what the "Arab World" thinks. That seems to be a mainstream media tactic. As if it doesn't matter how right or wrong something is, it is okay everywhere except the "Arab World."

I think the ENTIRE WORLD, save a few imbeciles with money to donate to Republican causes, see Mr. DeLay for the utter imbecile and disgusting pathetic excuse for a human being that he is.

Edited on Mon May-17-04 05:59 PM by phoebe
It is alarmingly clear that the situation in Iraq is influencing positions throughout the Middle East.

Do us all a favor, come up with a concrete plan to reduce tensions in the Middle East by offering actionable plans to all parties involved, instead of adding to the mess.

16. Congressmen to AIPAC: We'll legislate Bush's promises
http://www.haaretzdaily.com/hasen/spages/428593.html

<snip>

"Leading Democratic and Republican Congressmen told the American Israel Public Affairs Committee annual conference Monday that they plan to work toward formalizing in American law the contents of the letter U.S. President George W. Bush gave Prime Minister Ariel Sharon last month.

In the letter, Bush rejected the Palestinians' claim of a right of return of refugees to Israel and said it was unrealistic to expect a full Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank.

Officials in the Jewish community elaborated on remarks made by House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) and House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Maryland), saying they intend to begin gathering signatures in the coming days for a bill proposing legislation of Bush's promises elaborated upon in his letter to Sharon."

17. Am I allowed to say it?
The US is engaged in a war for the benefit of Israel. WMD, imminent threat to the security of the US is ALL BOGUS. Thank you, Mr. Delay for clearing that all up for us. Funny, I always thought US troops, US blood spilled was supposed to be to PROTECT AMERICA.

it is not for teh benefit of Israel (or the US for that matter). It is to speed up the end of days... when that comes DeLay will lead the call for a second Holocaust.

Do you get it? why these boys are so dangerous to both the US AND Israel? Let alone world peace..

21. This is the 'distort the focus' maneuver...
This is exactly how we got into the war with Iraq..

Bush comes out with a big announcement and we're off!

Bush arbitrarily announced we were in eminent danger, lied to prove it, and we're there.

This is the same pattern they use over and over again. I mean when is everyone going to wake up? Legislating Bush's words to Sharon should not be allowed or encouraged rather it should be thwarted and prevented from happening by democrats.

This is another mistake we're being rushed into post 911-
