2 Military jets collide over SW Indiana

Few details immediately available about incident this afternoon south of Terre Haute near Oaktown.

May 17, 2004

Two military jets crashed near the Illinois state line south of Terre Haute early this afternoon, police said.

There was no immediate word of injuries.
<snip>

The crash was reported at about 1:30 p.m., and military investigators were headed to the area to take over the investigation, Marshall said. Knox County Jailer Aaron Boulard said local police were on the scene.

1. That's not all that far from me.
There were two jets flying over my house a couple days ago.

I sure wouldn't be expecting them to be falling out of the sky.

I'm going to need something stronger than tinfoil. :tinfoilhat:

3. have had more frequent flights around here (again)
in the early evening... sorta brought back thoughts of 1.5 years ago when it was disclosed (after multiple denials) that there were fbi survelliance planes cruising the community. (Okay - this was a total nonsequitor...)

Not sure what to suggest to protect from falling planes.... if not tin foil... maybe wax paper ;-)

7. OMG! I grew up in Terre Haute!
There was a group of people there who held
a belief that Terre Haute was a metaphysical
vortex of some type- I am absolutely serious, and
to tell you the truth, I am inclined to believe it.
It was a VERY mysterious place. Eugene V.Debs
and his brother Paul Dresser were from there.
Max Erhmann also spent years there, as did
Burl Ives and Hoagy Carmichael.
At one time, it was called "Sin City" and was THE
place for poiliticians to mingle with gangsters
out of the public eye. It had more whore-houses,
gambling and speakeasy spots per square foot
that any city in the country.
Few know that there is an elaborate system of
underground tunnels there.
In college, we used to go into the tunnels
that spread through out the city and lead to various
secret underground rooms where people would
drink and gamble among other things...
there was a buiding on the ISU campus that
had a hidden room, a bar from the thirties
that was perfectly preserved that a room mate and
I discovered quite by accident on afternoon.
The building has since been torn down, but
during the demolition, I rescued an art noveau
window from the building which I still have.
There is actually a play about Terre Haute and
it's mysterious history by a playwrite named
Don Nigro.
A very strange little town indeed.
The population to this day is a extremely
odd mix of incredibly spiritually evolved artistic people
and white trash.
Just a little trivia about TH, my home sweet home.
