Killing of Iraqi leader deals new blow to Bush
BAGHDAD (AFP) - The head of the interim Iraqi Governing Council was killed by a car bomb in a new blow to a US government reeling from charges that it gave top-level approval for the abuse of prisoners and an admission that it was misled over Iraq (news - web sites)'s weapons of mass destruction.

But in Moscow, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yury Fedotov said the attack was "yet another very worrying signal about the need to rethink the very model of how Iraq is governed."

Russia is a veto-wielding permanent member of the UN Security Council, which the United States wants to adopt a new resolution so as to involve the international community in the military and economic stabilization of Iraq.

The administration had already had one of its worst weekends since President George W. Bush (news - web sites) took office in January 2001.

2. Why don't the council members move into the palace
compound with Bremer? It's the only "safe" place if you are part of the illegal bush/rumsfeld army of the genocide.

Yeesh, talk about misplace priorities. Poor Bush, people get blowed up and it looks bad for him. Never mind all the dead people.

9. All US news stories are framed in terms of "Is it good or bad for Bush?"
Another example is the fact that this story has taken second place in the mainstream behind the 'suspected WMD shell' found, an issue that has no bearing on anything anymore other than Bush's election chances. The 'suspected Sarin shell' makes absolutely no difference to how this disaster of Bush's Iraq invasion actually pans out -- only whether it 'proves' that Bush didn't make a mistake or not.

It's all Bush, all the time now on the cable channels -- even when they aren't talking about him, the cable news media have attempted to frame the entire American outlook on the world in terms of whether it's 'With Bush' or 'Against Bush', politically speaking.

Pathetic, it is. Sad & Pathetic.

11. It is indeed.
Its like state run TV in the old Soviet Union in which all reporting focused on the Premier. No one else matters to modern cable Pravda, obviously not the victims of the carnage who, as other posters have rightfully pointed out, were killed. They no longer have the option of hoping for "a better week."

12. In the end..
All the American lives lost and damaged, all the told and untold billions of American taxpayer dollars, will have served only to install an Islamic Theoacractic government in Iraq.

Is that Mission Accomplished?
