Private Lynch Pulls Out of Proposed Movie Deal With NBC | NYT
Private Lynch Pulls Out of Proposed Movie Deal With NBC
By BILL CARTER and JIM RUTENBERG

Representatives for Pfc. Jessica Lynch have pulled out of a proposed deal with NBC that would have added Private Lynch's cooperation to a television movie that the network is producing about her ordeal in the war in Iraq.

The decision came only a day after executives at the network and representatives for Private Lynch agreed a deal was close in which NBC would have paid her an undisclosed fee for her participation in the movie, which is due to start production in two weeks.

But the Lynch family scuttled those plans today, saying they had instead concluded that they wanted her authorized story to be told first in a book to be published before the end of this year.

"The Lynch family has received many offers from people interested in bringing Jessica's story to life," Randy Coleman, the spokesman for the family, said in a statement. "Jessica and her family have concluded that the most appropriate and complete telling of this story will be in a book, which they will have more to say about soon."

3. Yeah, I remember her father saying something like
"We shouldn't talk about the details of what happened. But nobody told us not to talk about the details."

A slip, or a bit of sarcasm?

4. Good for the Lynch family
In case anyone forgot, it was Lynch's dad that publicly debunked the BS story about his daughter being shot and stabbed that the Pentagon PR machine first put out.

The Lynches are a very religious family and the book will probably speak of faith and hope.

5. Good for them
If they're going to publish a book that tells the truth, I hope they make a bundle off it. I'll buy a copy, for sure.

They are just cutting themselves a bigger money deal.

Write the book.......make millions.

Then get the movie deal from the book...

I am disgusted that they are entertaining anything other than itnerview with a reputable journalist.

A real American Hero! I guess it is heroic in this sick society to turn something like this into riches beyond belief.

The story I want to hear is that of Shoshanna.....the REAL prisoner of war.

And it the whole thing is an insult to every woman in the military. Because what it is saying is that because this soldier was a woman that her being a prisoner of war is extraordinary.....more extraordinary than it would be were she a man. It's saying that women in combat IS an issue. How does that help women who just want to be treated as equals in the military world? Not one bit.

9. Either Way it's Smart
If they do a book first, they get their story as the story of record. If it goes to film first, you get producers into the mix and are just asking for a screwing.

11. I want to hear Shoshanna's story
Jessica should take her GI money, become a teacher, be the occassional spokeswoman in the next war, and live a long and happy life.

Shoshanna lived the POW horror. She and the other prisoners are the real story!
