Calif. Recall Leader Says He Won't Run
Calif. Recall Leader Says He Won't Run

The millionaire congressman who largely funded the effort to recall Gov. Gray Davis (news - web sites) abruptly pulled out of the race to replace him Thursday, a day after actor Arnold Schwarzenegger jumped in.

Republican Rep. Darrell Issa (news, bio, voting record), who made his fortune selling car alarms and pumped $1.7 million of his own money into the recall effort, announced he would not run in a tearful news conference.

Standing outside the Registrar of Voters office, Issa said instead of running in the Oct. 7 recall election, he will remain in Congress so he can work toward peace in the Middle East.

1. ISSA DEFEATS TRUMAN!
I listened to this on KSDO AM in San Diego. The station received (by fax, I believe) a statement from Issa's staff saying he WAS going to run, but Issa said in his announcement that he was not. Nice bit of confusion to an already chaotic day.

3. What a Loser
The L.A. Times exposed all his lies (My favorite: he said he was on Nixon's security detail at the 1971 World Series, which Nixon didn't even attend!) and people realized what he is. . . . and now Arnold, with much more name recognition. . . . . he just had to pick up his marbles and go home.

At least he has $2 million less now to play with.

5. Issa
It was all a setup. Rove will now double Issa's money. He spent one million, he will get back two million.

9. Yes, he will be well taken care of
Issa was used to set this up for Arnold, the media the darling.
I saw a simular bait in switch tactic in state politics before.
My county had 9 state representative, all elected at large. This was in Dick Cheney's home county of Natora, Wyoming in the early 90's. It is a very white bread Republican world there. Of the nine state reps, only one was a Democrat. He became very popular and after two terms in the house, decided to run for the state senate. He was leading in the polls when a new candidate entered the race late. She was non other than the local news anchor lady whom everyone in a four county area knew and loved, she was Republican. Long story short, she won the close election based on her name recognition and popularity. But heres the killer, after serving one year, she decides to resign! Her seat was then filled by the Republicans who hand picked her replacment. Nice job! Call in the heavy weights to get things done. Arnold will win if I know the people like I think I do.
