1. Just heard it on NPR
His Web site isn't updated yet, but that's not unusual.

Must have decided he didn't want to share the spotlight with Ahnuld.

29. I'll bet that's exactly what happened! Rove called him.
There is no doubt in my mind the White House is completely in the loop on al this, and it started 2 years ago with the energy debacle.

These people (BFEE) waited 30 years for all this to come together and if Calif. and our electoral votes go to the Dark Side, all is lost.

22. But remember that Simon beat Rierdon
in the Repub primary.

Davis's polls are in the mid 20's now, if he's recalled, and that's likely, and the repub vote goes as it did in the 2002 primary and we get stuck with Simon we're hosed, utterly. I'd take the spouse of a Kennedy any day over a right-wing wack job.

16. More!!
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/politics/recall/20030807-1138-davisrecall.html

SAN DIEGO – Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Vista, who helped bankroll the Davis recall effort, says he's decided NOT to run for governor of California.

He said he could not leave behind his work in Congress, where he could continue to work for ``uniting the people of the Middle East.''

.more.

17. w00t!
I'm glad to hear it.

So McClintock and Simon are the only two left that we *really* have to worry about?

You know the radical Christian Right (Heretical Christian Pretenders as I like to call them) will all be out in droves for this one, and I don't think they'll be voting for Arnold. This will be the largest chance for upset here - the same guys who got Simon nominated instead of Rierdon.

I think I could live with Arnold as Gubinator, but Simon would be another Reagan. If we can get the Worst-case-scenario to be Arnold (or Rierdon), we can all breathe a sigh of relief, I think.

36. haha seen this play before
Cromwell (not Oliver, his grandfather I believe, Thomas) was Henry VIII's henchman. Did the dirty work. Investigated convents, monestaries etc. for "bad behavior". Sent many a "heretic" to the gallows. Word is he cried like a baby on his way to meet the ax.

Gotta love poetic justice, so timeless....

32. Should we expect him to get ...
cushy post in the corrupt WH administration. Obviously for stepping aside and not challenging the name-recognition candidate.

I am not convinced that Arnold can win. I'm not convinced that Davis will be recalled. So they got a couple million signatures out 31 million registered voters. At best, that is 1 in 15 registered voters, who feel strongly enough about a recall to sign the petition. In order to actually recall Davis more people have to vote YES for recall, than vote NO for recall. I think that still puts the recall way out of reach. Like any election, voter turnout will be the key to defeating the recall.

I'm sure there are way more Republicans than that in California so the recall petition numbers actually indicates to me that the recall will not stand. The only people that can allow this recall to succeed are the Democrats. If the Democrats are on the recall bandwagon with the Repukes, then there might be a chance for it to succeed. I personally don't buy it.

I would like to think that the Dems/Libs/Progs in California outnumber the knuckle dragging Repukes.

Lets hope that in the next 2 months, Davis can open the eyes of Californians to the fact that their budget woes were caused by the misguided policies of the White House, and the Repukes who gave Enron a free pass to minipulate the energy markets.

Cheers
Drifter

35. A lot of Duers are happy but
did any of you think that Issa put in a lot of money to this because the repukes told him to? It wouldn't surprise me if Karl Rove was in this from the beginning. He got Issa to do this to lure Arnold and then Issa drops out. Oh, I'm sure Issa will get his reward in the near future.

What do you guys think?

37. It has been suggested by some since the start
Issa was unpopular since birth. He doesn't lose anything by being the face behind the recall. It gives Arnorld or Riordan cover to run and save the state from both Davis and Issa and the Republicans take over the state so Bush can win in 2004. Don't doubt it.

39. That's their tactic
He pulled out to give his votes to Arnold.

Republican's tactic is very clear. Let someone give the money for recall. The one who started the recall is always a dislike of people. So they choose Issa.

The candidate will be Arnold. Because of his population. But Arnolds is only an actor and has no experience of a politician. So he is only a patsy of Republican. Under his name, Republican can grasp many important posts include election office. Something took place in Minnisota where the governor is an athelete.(Ventura?) Demo lost Senator's election after Wellstone's death. Even for the sympathetic effection, or for the fame of Mondale, Demo shouldn't lost in 2002. But it's not their governor, and they don't control election office. Those who control intelligence was easy to get a vote result favorable to them like what happened in Florida.
