US marine killed in Iraq

BAGHDAD (AFP) - A US marine was killed during fighting in the restive western Al Anbar province west of Baghdad, the coalition said in a statement.

The statement said the marine was killed in action on Thursday while "conducting security and stability operations," but gave no more details.

1. And this story will get less attention than Berg
or the prison torture. I think most of the citizens of this country have become so desensitized that someone could come into their home, shoot their dog in the name of national security, and they would simply shrug their shoulders and say okay then.

An American soldier died. Another one. This one while "conducting security and stability operations." The situation is obviously not very secure or stable.

5. A single death used to cause a stir here...
I don't know if the standards have changed because of Falluja, or if we're just preoccupied with Berg and torture. But it's eerie how little attention these single combat deaths get these days around here.

7. Actually, it seems there are many less US deaths lately
relative to April. Is that true or is just being under reported? With all the Iraqi KIA and heavy fighting in Najaf and Karbala you'd think there'd more US casualties.
