Powell says Iraqis could like occupation
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/chitribts/20040514/ts_chicagotrib/powellsaysiraqiscouldlikeoccupation&cid=2027&ncid=1480

Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites) acknowledged Thursday that the majority of Iraqis want U.S. forces out of their country but suggested their opposition to the occupation would be reversed "in a minute" if security was restored.

Although he allowed that the U.S. faces difficulties in Iraq (news - web sites), Powell offered a generally optimistic outlook on the situation there as he prepared to play host to discussions Friday with his counterparts from some of the world's richest and most influential nations, the Group of Eight.

The meeting Friday in Washington comes as the U.S. is embarking on an effort to gain international support and legitimacy for the transitional government scheduled to take power in Iraq after June 30, a government that will come without any reduction in the U.S. military presence.

The stakes are high on all fronts as the U.S. begins dealing with the international community on the political, legal, economic and security issues raised by the rapidly approaching hand-over to a still undefined interim government.

1. So Powell says that if the Iraqis stopped shooting at us...
...they might enjoy the occupation more.

See. THIS is one of the consequences of Ambien abuse. Don't let this happen to you!

2. My dog! That is what he said!
If the Iraqis would stop hating us, they would love us. If they stop trying to kill us, they could start liking us. This is frightening! Our leaders talk and think this way. :scared: :silly: :puke: - take your pick!

9. Well, of course!
After all, the only difference between rape and consentual sex is whether the victim consents ... so it MUST be all up to the victim, right? (gawddd!) :puke:

4. Powell should just be quiet. He is an embarrassment. He will not have any
credibility to speak on Iraq unless he resigns and is honest about the unqualified disaster that it is.

7. Powell's got a case of the "ifonly's"
if only we could restore "peace", if only we could get reconstruction money flowing into Iraq.

Thats the problem Colon. If only we lived in the Fascist Utopian fantasy-world that the Neo-Cons believe we live in, Iraqi's would be in love with us... :eyes:

8. OY, he needs to lay off the Hallucinogenic substances. Sheesh.
OMFG, this turkey has absolutely lost it. Oh well, that's what you get for hangin' around the bad guys long enough.

The late Detroit mayor Coleman Young once said that If you lie to people long enough, they'll believe you. Looks like the SOS swallowed the lies, big time!

There is no pacification precisely because most Iraqis sympathize with the resistance.

12. Ridiculous; That's like saying
Sure, the guy on the ground doesn't like the boot pressing down on his neck, but that perception would be reversed in a minute if the boot stopped hurting!

Just as the boot to the neck necessarily hurts, the US occupation necessarily produces security problems. Just as the boot to the neck is the cause of the pain, the US occupation is the cause of the security problems. There is no way to disentangle them. There is no US occupation WITHOUT security problems, because the US occupation is the cause of the security problems, and so necessarily entails them. Powell is making jokes over there, or is a joke himself.

does anyone in this entire administration actually posses a brain?

They have all these advanced degrees and all this experience and they are just plain stupid.

They apparently know nothing, nor care to know nothing, of history or do not care to apply it at all to their current situation, which is one of raking in the wealth.

They are all riding high on the riches they made from their control over the military industrial complex actually even adding to it.

It is all they care about. They have not what most of us would consider "normal" considerations for the human beings under their rule.

No way do they care about the common man. In fact they may despise the common man, and that can be proven by all the cuts these evil people have made to virtually all social programs that society is dependant upon.

They have abandoned humanity in favor of the adored piece of green paper. It is so unfortunate that they have been allowed to function and destroy all that is good about this country in a space of a few years.

I think the books that will come out after this pathetic, bumbling and stupid, idiot is ousted from office, that would tell us all about it in detail, are probably more important than the books that have come out recently.

They care only for riches and wealth and maintaining that wealth by positioning themself in politics with and by who knows what (see Cheney) and putting themself in power so it it easy to rake in the profits .

Edited on Fri May-14-04 06:09 PM by Mountainman
In the past few days I've heard from media whores that the WMDs were moved to Syria, Saddam gave millions to Al Qaeda from the oil for food program, the Berg death proves that Al Qaeda were/are in Iraq.

This from Laura Ingrahm, Michael Savage and Glen Beck.

Now Powell says that they are going to love us and enjoy the occupation. At least he says "occupation". That's new.

21. Iraqis are going to Love a preemptive preoccupation?
maybe they might have if Bush and his doppelganger cowboys hadn't ruined our reputation as a benevolent democratic government. After all they have done, I doubt even our own military has any trust and confidence in this administration's polices. They already know there's going to be scapegoating and one of them may be next on the hot seat.

Has anyone done a confidence (in the US government) vote poll with the military yet?
