FINALLY Kerry is making some news by attacking Bush and blaming him for egregious torture and violations of international law.

Hoo-f*cking-ray!!!

EXCERPT:

Kerry Assails Bush on Iraq
Senator Says War Is 'Mismanaged'
By Jim VandeHei
Washington Post Staff Writer
Thursday, May 13, 2004; Page A01

ORLANDO, May 12 -- Sen. John F. Kerry, breaking momentarily from his cautious approach to turmoil in Iraq, blasted President Bush on Wednesday for running an "extraordinarily mismanaged and ineptly prosecuted war" and strongly suggested Bush is partly to blame for abuses at Abu Ghraib prison.

"They dismiss the Geneva Conventions, starting in Afghanistan and Guantanamo, so that the status of prisoners both legal and moral becomes ambiguous at best," the senator from Massachusetts told radio host Don Imus.

In his most expansive comments on U.S. mistreatment of Iraqis at Abu Ghraib, the presumptive Democratic nominee said this amounts to "major failures in command."

1. could it also be chicken and egg?
you know, the chicken media, and the egg-head senator ...
seriously, though, what's "FINALLY" about this story is that they are FINALLY writing what has been said before, imho.

2. Kerry's statements are absolutely correct, but
he is making the same mistake Clark did: expecting too much of the intellectual capabilities of the average voter. "extrordinarily mismanaged and ineptly prosecuted" are concepts with meaning only to those who have actually managed or prosecuted a military operation or who have studied warfare in detail.

Kerry needs a sound-bite generator for the campaign. The deep thinking and analysis will come into play after he is elected and has to deal with the chaos and disaster the neocons have inflicted on the world.

3. I Must Say the Post Covered This Pretty Well Too, PG A01!
This paragraph blew me away because it's so rare to see something like this said of a Democrat these days:

"After learning that an American in Iraq was decapitated by men claiming al Qaeda affiliation, Kerry avoided any mention of Bush in his statements about the killing and struck a bipartisan, patriotic tone."

4. Note the Weasel Words
"Mismanaged?" "Ineptly prosecuted?" These basically invalidate the rest of what he says. He's still taking a pro-war position, just implying (absurdly) that their was a "right way" to massacre, invade and occupy the people of Iraq, so Bush is to be blamed not for the rotten illegal war (which Kerry voted for, and in which Kerry supports "staying the coruse," i.e. continuing to kill Iraqis) but for "mismanaging" the illegal war of occupation.
