NYT: Bush Supporters Are Split on How to Pursue Iraq Plan
President Bush said on Wednesday that the beheading of an American working in Iraq was part of an effort to "shake our confidence," but he insisted that the United States would "complete our mission," despite what his aides freely concede is a major loss of credibility in the Arab world.

Speaking briefly on the South Lawn of the White House, Mr. Bush appeared to try to use the beheading of Nicholas Berg, a young Pennsylvania man seeking work rebuilding Iraq, to refocus attention on the nature of the enemy the United States faces rather than on the continuing investigation into the abuses of Iraqi prisoners in American custody.

But some of Mr. Bush's aides and many of his outside advisers said in interviews that conservatives who had backed the war were now badly fractured on how the administration should pursue its Iraq strategy, and they fear that the combination of the prisoner abuse scandal and the inability of American forces to put down the insurgency are taking a toll on the Bush re-election race.

1. And that mission would be...
To exterminate all WMDs, terrorists, terror itself, avenge 9-11, liberate the Iraqi people, and whatever he thinks of next. Or is that, exterminate all Iraqi liberties, and terrorize some terrorist WMDs. Or maybe, terrorize the Iraqi people, liberate the WMDs, avenge Bush's Daddy, and build a nuclear missile shield. Or, wait, was that nuclear missile shield the crooked obsession from before 9-11?

Ah, screw it, let's go bowling.

4. War on Terror
in which "terror" is defined as the continued oxygen consumption of anyone anywhere in the world maintaining that * does not sitteth at the right hand of God judging the unworthy non-Pioneer Club contributors. Such dissenters must be eradicated, which will bring the population down to fewer than a million on the planet.

Well, at least the environmental situation will be easier to get a handle on. The problem is that most of those left will be operating fossil fuels-burning industries.
