Abuse Scandal May Dishonor U.S. Military
Abuse Scandal May Dishonor U.S. Military
By ROBERT BURNS, AP Military Writer

WASHINGTON - If blame for the Iraqi prisoner abuse should move beyond the 13 soldiers already reprimanded or criminally charged, it eventually could touch senior generals including the military's highest-ranking officer, Air Force Gen. Richard Myers.

Myers technically is not in the chain of command, which extends from the president to the secretary of defense to the senior commander in the field, Army Gen. John Abizaid, and downward to his subordinates.

As the senior military adviser to President Bush (news - web sites) and to Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, however, Myers has emerged among the potentially vulnerable officials. There is no suggestion that Myers or Rumsfeld is criminally liable, but Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., said Sunday that President Bush must consider whether they are still viable leaders.

"I think it's still in question whether Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld and, quite frankly, General Myers can command the respect and the trust and the confidence of the military and the American people to lead this country," said Hagel, a Vietnam veteran.

1. They Dishonored Themselves
When they turned from their time-honored traditions to follow a bible-thumpin' thieving, self-serving freak for a few years.

In case the military complains, I believe the precedents were set in the NAZI/Nuremberg trials.

13. The Generals are THUGS and HOODLUMS
Edited on Mon May-10-04 09:00 PM by saigon68
They have no honor and most could care less about anyone under them.. Few of them deserve anything but derision. I see no leadership from Myers whatsoever. They will be little morale or will to fight, once the facts come out.

The real bullies, thugs and criminals will love it, they are still killing to achieve some weird fantasy.

MYERS HANDIWORK looks like the Photos of the naked Jews stripped and marched to the
pits at Babi-Yar to have their brains blown out by Steel Helmeted NAZI THUGS

like this one

The More Things Change the More They Remain the Same.

Amazing on how so little has changed

I can’t wait for the troop apologists to declare

“WELL THEY DIDN’T KILL HIM”

Look at the image of Terror in this MAN’S EYES on his FACE !!!

20. There's a lot of great generals in the services.
- There's a lot of assholes too. The worst are the yes men appointed at the highest levels by the Bush cabal. Shinseki and other generals told Rummy to pack sand with his dumbass war plans. They were shown the door. Rumsfeld had to pull a shithead out of RETIREMENT to be the Army Chief of Staff. Unreal.
- Myers is probably more incompetent than evil. He got his job by being a Star Wars expert when Bush came in. Great. We have two ground wars with a USAF Star Wars geek as the top general. Fucking beautiful plan, Chimp. Myers doesn't have a clue and when you put guys like him in charge, bad things happen.
- So they trot Peter Pace out frequently to show off his Marine uniform to counter dumbass blue suit Myers. I got to know Peter Pace in Somalia. He is a scary person. Very intelligent but a fucking robot has more emotions. I'm sure Pace was all for the invasion. He can go down the toilet with the rest of the bums.
- But we do have a lot of damn good generals still in service and/or influencing current events. Generals Shinseki, Zinni, Arnold, Clark and many others are loyal to the Nation and not to Bush. We have a lot to be ashamed of, but we're not the Nazis yet.

22. I respect your opinion, I how ever disagree that the Photo isn't NAZI
BEHAVIOR.

AND SO IS THIS NAZI BEHAVIOR

When the POW had a PLASTIC FLASHLIGHT RAMMED UP HIS RECTUM ???

When a GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG BITES HIM IN THE TESTICLES ???

When the POW had a 220 Volt wire attached to the TIP OF HIS PENIS ???

When Lynndie England was encouraged to help the POWs obtain erections so they could perform
ORAL SEX ACTS ON EACH OTHER and the PERKY PRINCESS OF ABU GHRAIB
PRISON COULD SHOUT "HE'S GETTING HARD"???

When Lynndie England the PERKY PRINCESS OF ABU GHRAIB DRAGGED a naked POW
around with a Dog Leash

When SPC Sabrina Harman, 372nd MP Company, stated in her sworn statement regarding the
incident where a detainee was placed on a box with electric wires attached to his fingers, toes, and
penis, ““““that her job was to keep detainees awake.”””” It is interesting to speculate that SASSY
SABRINA UNDOUBTEDLY ACCOMPLISHED HER MISSION BY TURNING ON THE
JUICE..

When POW’’S were FORCED to wear Dirty Women’’s Underwear on their Heads

When a POW was beaten to death, HIS BODY PACKED IN ICE and TAKEN OUT IN THE
DESERT AND DUMPED ???

When a Civilian Interrogator ANALLY RAPED A 16 YEAR OLD BOY IN FRONT OF GI
WITNESSES and is going to get a free pass because he was under NO ONES JURISDICTION ???

19. You're all NUTS if you think Bush/Cheney did NOT order this!
Nothing personal.

And Oliver North partook in the torture. And Bush watched it on live webcam/satellite link. I can feel it in my bones!

4. Abuse? Scandal?
They bend the truth with every word they utter. It's not abuse, it's torture. And it's not the scandal (which is the media reaction on the torture) that "may dishonor", but the war, the lies that led to it, the detentions and the torture.

16. If the THING in the White House wins the next election
look for our next wave of journalists to come to us from Jerry Falwell's university in Lynchburg, Virginia, and Bob Jones University in South Carolina, and Oral Roberts University in Tulsa.

THEN you're going to see some CHAMPIONSHIP bending and twisting of our language to protect, preserve, and promote his @$$.

3. It won't
Edited on Mon May-10-04 05:05 PM by Marianne
it has been three or so years since Ken Lay and his crimes, was brought to the public domain.

It won't

I am so tired

Is it worth it to teach our children to be honest and that telling the truth is the way to live a life, have some substance and be happy, when these rich people can build and live in four or five different homes that contain more than fifteen rooms for two people to live in, and absolutely thumb their noses at the system that we the little people, the common man, have believed in?

We indeed, have been naive and stupid.

and these rich, privileged, STILL SURVIVE with the reputation as "CREDIBLE PEOPLE" AND ACTUALLY RUN FOR OFFICE?

Where they will have control over we little people? But really live in a different world and know no other.

This has gone too far. It is time that the system, that is now corrupt, change.

We need real people, not rich people who have been pampered all of their lives and who can look down their noses at us--in some way or the other.

6. They need full investigations
Starting with everyone rounded up after 9/11
then anyone who has been transferred to a 3rd country
then Afghanistan
then Guantanamo
then Iraq.

They need testimony from all of the prisoners, guards, military, cia, everyone.
and real punishment for everyone responsible.

otherwise its all a sham.

individual service chiefs under him. Where is he in the pecking order if he is not "technically" in the chain of command?

8. Why not the private contractors?
Why is none even questioning what level of command these questioning techniques were initiated in the private defense intelligence? The private defense contractors are the real scandal here. We paid them millions!!! The laws governing them are fuzzy (to say the least!), and they have access to "workers" who have been indoctrinated to follow orders unconditionally in the name of GOD and patriotism.
And.....the longer this war drags on the better for them.

12. not to follow orders unconditionally
so the question is whether they were trained properly as to which orders to refuse. They go by a 'reasonable man' priciple, an order that sounds illegal to a reasonable man should be rejected.

And whether just training is good enough, there should be constant inspections, reviews, testing on procedures etc.

Were they still (or ever) reasonable men? Did they assign degenerates to the job? Did the mission whack them out after X months so they were no longer reasonable? Did they actually refuse orders and eventually get persuaded by superiors that the orders were legal?

15. I guess what I meant
Edited on Mon May-10-04 08:49 PM by loyalsister
was they were conditioned to follow orders unconditionally by this heavily propaganidized war and general nationalistic climate. It started here- long before they were deployed.
I think it started with the language that has been used since 9\11.
Imagine how useful "with us or against us" was to the contractors. "Evildoers" was the first linguistic step to dehumanizing the prisoners.
This is a different kind of war, and the military training is probably being trumped by the nationalistic culture.

9. What if BBV made you responsible for the actions of who you vote for?
I know BBV is unaccountable and fraudulant.

I'm just fantasizing about an electorate being held accountable for the actions of who they vote for.

Kind of like the way parents are liable for some of the things their kids do.

Man oh man. People would pay mighty close attention to our political system if they had to pick good politicians and mind what they do...
um...the way the are supposed to now...!

Iraq and Abu Ghraib will do the same thing. Again, it is leadership. Top down. In November, the Bu$h regime will be hoisted by their favorite petards: hubris and arrogance.
