Red Cross Was Told Iraq Abuse 'Part of the Process'

LONDON (Reuters) - The Red Cross saw U.S. troops keeping Iraqi prisoners naked for days in darkness at the Abu Ghraib jail last October and was told by an intelligence officer in charge it was "part of the process," a report leaked on Monday said.

<snip>
During a visit to Abu Ghraib in October, Red Cross delegates witnessed "the practice of keeping persons deprived of their liberty completely naked in totally empty concrete cells and in total darkness," the report said.

"Upon witnessing such cases, the ICRC interrupted its visits and requested an explanation from the authorities. The military intelligence officer in charge of the interrogation explained that this practice was 'part of the process'."

<snip>
The Red Cross's visit took place two months before pictures were taken of U.S. troops abusing prisoners, which later led to criminal charges against seven soldiers. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has said he was unaware of abuse until the investigation into the pictures was launched in January.

1. Using neuro-linguinistics, the "process" could refer to a cult that was
useful to the spooks around Col. Michael Aquino back in the 1960's-The Process Church of The Final Judgement.

5. Yes, he was a Church of Satan priest in the US Army and Defense
Intelligence Agency that replaced the Church of Satan with his own Temple of Set in 1975 while on active duty. He definitely has had an influence on the national security community and in US military.
Here's a bit of background so that the average reader will understand what we're discussing.

Aquino is all about "evil" in high places and part of the culture of spooks imo.

2. Of course it was "part of the process"
exactly like systematic starvation, hideosu abuse, and death-by-gassing was "part of the process" by which the Nazis dealt with Jews, Poles, homsexuals, Liberals...

3. Meaning "whats the big deal"
Edited on Mon May-10-04 01:19 PM by DBoon
"We treat prisoners in the US like this all the time"

Sadly, the treatment of Iraqi prisoners that has the world outraged is likely no different that what goes on in our prison system all the time.

7. Iraq: Work To Be Proud Of
The last time I was in Iraq, I met with a delegation of graduate students from Baghdad's best universities. Two hours into the discussion, one student said something extraordinary to me. He likened us to "doctors" and Iraq to a "patient" who needed radical surgery: "You have started the operation. We are on the operating table. You can't leave now. You've got to finish," he pleaded.

I let him know that the United States was committed to restoring Iraq to health and would stay through the period of convalescence.
