Support mixed for Rumsfeld on Capitol Hill
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Support for U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld -- sharply criticized for his handling of the Iraqi prisoner abuse scandal -- appears mixed on Capitol Hill.

Over the weekend, several Republican lawmakers took to the airwaves to announce their confidence in Rumsfeld.

But some Democrats said otherwise, and one leading Republican said it was an open question as to whether Rumsfeld could continue in the top defense post.

The reviews follow Rumsfeld's appearance before two congressional panels in which he said he should have done a better job of explaining the gravity of the abuse reports to lawmakers and the president. (Rumsfeld tells Congress of his 'failure'; a timeline of the abuse controversy)

1. They're trying to calculate the harm to Bush's anti-flip-flopping image
relative to the benefit of LOOKING like he's doing something about problems.

2. Yeah! Rumsfeld is supported by partisan hacks.......
I thoroughly enjoy watching the Bush apologists try to spin this criminal act that they themselves encouraged from the very beginning.

4. Screw the time line. This issue is the failure of his policies.
It was his ant-Geneva Convention, "illegal combatant" agenda in Afghanistan and Iraq that set the tone for the rampant racism in Iraqi prisons.
It is also his "invasion lite" plan that has spread our troops too thin and made it impossible to handle the huge amount of prisoners in a timely and responsible manner.

He and General Myers are responsible for this failed agenda and they should be impeached.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...
