Bush Apologizes for Iraqi Prison Abuse
http://abcnews.go.com/wire/US/reuters20040506_366.html

President Bush told Jordan's King Abdullah on Thursday he was sorry for the humiliation suffered by Iraqi prisoners who have been abused by their American jailers.

"I told him I was sorry for the humiliation suffered by the Iraqi prisoners and the humiliation suffered by their families," the Republican president said during a Rose Garden appearance with Abdullah.

7. AP link- he doesn't apolgize for the abuse or torture

A day after he stopped short of apologizing, Bush told Jordan's King Abdullah II: "I was sorry for the humiliation suffered by the Iraqi prisoners and the humiliation suffered by their families.

"I told him I was as equally sorry that people seeing those pictures didn't understand the true nature and heart of America," Bush said, standing in the Rose Garden alongside

20. A poor substitute as it is not a direct apology.
Stating that you had apologized to a third person is not the same as apologizing directly to the victims. A real apology would have been directly looking into the camera and saying to the victims and to the world, "I am sorry." This clearly falls woefully short of that standard. Once more he demonstrates that he is incapable of ever saying "I am sorry or I made a mistake." Mark Crispin Miller, author of the Bush Dyslexicon, has noted this that he gets tongue tied whenever he has to talk about anything that discomforts him or involves acknowledging error . Thus, even though as Commander in Chief he should assume responsibility for the utter breakdown in command and procedures of those beneath him, he will not even though he eagerly cloaks himself in the mantle when trying to claim glory for their military achievements. The title was plastered prominently on the plane he flew to the carrier, but of course the words mean nothing as they are a phot prop like everything else, to be used for political gain and discarded when inconvenient or discomforting.

the abuse photos appeared WHEN???? and how long has it taken for * to apologize??? hmmmmmm He only apologized because he saw his approval ratings falling. He's only sorry they got caught. A true apology would have be offered MUCH SOONER.

19. No pictures...........No story...........as bas as it was.....I am happy
that pictures were taken and given to authorites. We would never have heard of this...and the same thing would still be going on.

He is like an abuser who apologizes only when he gets caught red handed. Without the proof, they would lie until they get raptured or ruptured...whichever came first.

6. Too little, too late Chimpy
You had your chance yesterday and you failed. This half-assed attempt at an apology--and to the wrong audience--ONLY comes on the heels of widespread criticism for your failure to apologize in the first place.

8. I was revolted by the president's appearance.
I am amazed at how many times he uses the same words and phrases in the same speech. He must have said "secretary of state rumsfeld" at least five times. Its like a kid in school who tries stretch the pages on his report to satisfy a length requirement.

And how about those pregnant pauses?

How about the feeble joke he tried to make when the King of Jordan invited a question from a non-Jordanian reporter. What was that?!

9. Did he really say "secretary of state rumsfeld?"
Rummy is currently secretary of defense. Powell is secretary of state.

Maybe Chimpy doesn't understand the difference. Defense. State. War. Peace. All the same.

11. That joke shows how serious Bush* is about this.
We're talking about a man that jokingly mimicked a condemned prisoner (Tammy Faye Tucker) on Larry King Live right before executing her. Could the man, himself, be a sadist?

He simply said he apologized to the King of Jordan. He had a chance to say "I'm sorry" on Arab TV yesterday, and he SHOULD have said it to the interim Iraqi council before another head of state!

15. Why would he even apologize to the King of Jordan?
And how is this even news, much less breaking news? We are in a pretty sorry state when apologizing to the wrong person, the day after you have the chance to apologize to the right people, is considered a sign of "humanity" or whatever the hell you want to call it.

34. It's in keeping with his strategy of attacking countries
Edited on Thu May-06-04 05:02 PM by NRK
that don't attack us (and can't), of balancing the budget by cutting taxes and then spending like a drunken sailor, of solving the healthcare crisis by funneling profits to pharmaceutical companies, of fixing education problems by underfunding his own programs, and restoring honor and dignity to the White House by surrounding himself with people who are even more evil than he is.

Reporter: Mr. Satan, is there something you would like to share with humanity about the world condition?

Satan: You know, I've been going around the world for the last six thousand years or so just f**king everything up. Well, now I have something I want to say about it.

Reporter: And what may that be, Mr. Satan?

Satan: I'm sorry!

25. Better tell the rest of the Republicans.. they didn't get the memo!!
Bush is so transparent.. 'ooh, I'm sorry'... while his supporters and his minions are ripping on the victims, making excuses for it, and saying it's a non-issue. The truth is the bastard KNEW about this early this year, and did nothing.. NOW he acts as though he's SOOO surprised and sorry. Took him to freakin' long to acknowledge it, and took him too long to apologize for it. This is so eerily similar, politcally, to the Trent Lott/Strom Thurmond debacle. The GOP faithful KNOW that Bush is not sorry, that he feels just as they do that the prisoners had it coming.. but they realize that Bush has to apologize for it to look good. You can be assured that Rove is letting everyone know secretly, that Bush is not an apologist, and he feels the way the other GOP feel about this. If Bush really cared, he would have demanded something be done MONTHS ago, and he's have fired Rumsfeld so fast his head wouldn't have time to spin.

27. Uh...
gee, in case anyone doesn't know it, we OUTSOURCE prisoners to Egypt and JORDAN SO THEY CAN TORTURE THEM and we can say we DIDN'T or DON'T..

The King of Jordan is JUST as responsible for the torture he uses on people WE BRING HIM.

this is so fucked and no one even knows.. the media will not tell us of the inhumane treatment in JORDAN, will they?

Bush might as well be apologising to his dogs.
