A House united -- against Perry
By CHRISTY HOPPE / The Dallas Morning News

Gov. Rick Perry finally found the consensus Tuesday that he'd been seeking on public school finance: a 126-0 House vote against his plan.

In a bipartisan show of pique, lawmakers slapped the governor for publicly trashing key elements of the House plan the day before major debate was to begin.

Mr. Perry on Monday called the House plan's proposed 1.25 percent payroll tax against businesses "an economic U-turn" and "a job killer" and issued a thinly veiled threat to veto it. He pitched his own plan again, saying it was looking "prettier and prettier."

But actually, things only got ugly. House leaders decided to vote on the governor's plan Tuesday before they began serious work on their proposal.

Mr. Perry has called for a split tax roll – having the state collect business property taxes and leaving residential taxes collected locally. He also favors "sin taxes" on cigarettes and strip clubs, and video gambling.

I know this is state news, but thought it might be of interest for all to read that Perry is not as powerful as he thinks he is.

4. Beautiful day!!!!
My brother, his wife, and I went to the Driscoll Hotel in Austin last weekend. Beautiful Victorian hotel. Lot of politicos hang out in the bar. My sister-in-law said we should go back and have a drink some time and my brother said he didn't want to sit with people like that. I added, "Yes, I might see Governor Perry and would be obligated to throw my glass at his coiffed head!"

22. Here's your chance - contribute $xx.22 to Richard Morrison
http://www.richardmorrisonfordistrict22.com /

We (and others) raised $20K for him in one week. But the pissant extortionist still has $1 million.

You are right - this race has national implications...

19. Denied. Goodhair and his wife said things are peachy.
I think the rumor might have been started in Carole Keeton McClellan Rylander Strayhorn's office, but that's just speculation.

20. You are welcome Richardo, since the Texas GOP strong armed
take over of the Texas voters, many non-Texans want to see these guys get their comeuppance.

Hope Perry has a hard time of it from this time out.

7. I just love the idea of Strayhorn and Hutchinson going after Gov Good Hair
both going after him. Never had much use for the Comptroller. Her son, Scott McClellen is currently the mouth of the Chimp, Carol is good at grandstanding, but I sense she will cause Perry lots of grief over the next 2 years.

Kay Bailey Hutchinson, ( another Republican cheerleader - but not entirely evil ),
will also be eying Perry's job as well.

I hope he gets attacked from both sides. He richly deserves it.
So far he has done nothing that reccommends him for a second term.

9. Notice the funny business
Perry wanted the State to collect business taxes so that he could make sweet deals with the business owners, while the local collectors still followed the rules in collecting taxes from homeowners.

He is getting so blatant.

Memo to Governor Blowdry: implementing the extremist counsel you got from the likes of James Leininger and Grover Norquist (Those guys you were hanging with in the Bahamas) may prove hazardous to your political health.

12. MR. TELEVANGELIST HAIR GOT BITCH SLAPPED BY HIS OWN PARTY
I liked the spin he put on it by saying something like "oh,this is good because the alternate proposal is what I really wanted." Yeah, "I meant to do that." I'm a Texan, and this just make me smile.

Inclusion of Perry's comment re: "prettier and prettier" makes me wonder if a reporter wasn't trying to drudge up another old story.

21. Little Ricky Perry: Texas certainly deserves better.
Look at the extraordinary talent from Texas: Barbara Jordan, Henry Gonzalez, Ann Richard, Molly Ivins, Jim Hightower, etc., etc.. How in the name of heaven does Texas end up with an incompetent, womanizing, narcissist fluff-ball like Rick Perry? Thank God the "Lege" bitch-slapped the fool.

I think Perry may be dumber than Chimp.

Perhaps he should take another trip to the Bahamas to lick his wounds.
