He'll try to charm and demand, and John Warner will eat it all up.

Rummy is so omnipotent how can anyone goes against such wise wisdom?

Edited on Wed May-05-04 04:11 PM by Atman
They're FRIDAY. As in "DUMP." The future of the world is at stake, but Rummy doesn't have to come to the hearings when asked because he's speaking to the Garden Club or some such bullshit. How conveeeeeeeeeeeeeenient. I guess we'll have to push it back to Friday. DUMP.

,...not that that should matter because blatant misrepresentation or a calculated cover up is just plain unlawful!!!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has been asked to testify at a public hearing tentatively set for Thursday on the scandal over abuse of Iraqi prisoners, Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John Warner said on Wednesday.

Warner, a Virginia Republican, called the allegations of mistreatment by U.S. troops "an appalling and totally unacceptable break of military regulations and conduct." He said Rumsfeld and the other civilians who control the military "have the ultimate responsibility of the actions of the men and women in uniform."

Rumsfeld said on Wednesday "any American" felt apologetic for abuses of Iraqi prisoners by U.S. soldiers but stopped short of offering a direct apology himself.

Asked on ABC's morning television show whether he would like to apologize to the Iraqi people, he replied: "Oh my goodness, any American who sees the photographs that we have seen has to feel apologetic to the Iraqi people who were abused and recognize that that is something that is unacceptable and un-American."

10. Here's one I stumbled on while looking for that. So quotes from Shrub
on Arab TV (can't find that thread now)

http://www.wcnc.com/sharedcontent/nationworld/nationprint/050504cccajccwnatabhorrent.190ee0cdc.html

Bush dismissed, however, any implication that Americans were no better in their treatment of prisoners than Saddam.

"A dictator wouldn't be answering questions about this," he told Al-Arabiya.

snip>

Bush's interviewers did not ask him whether he thought an apology was appropriate, and Bush did not offer one.

But his spokesman used the word "sorry" a half-dozen times.

"We've already said that we're sorry for what occurred, and we're deeply sorry to the families and what they must be feeling and going through as well," McClellan said. "The president is sorry for what occurred and the pain it has caused."

Asked why Bush himself had not apologized, McClellan said: "I'm saying it now for him."

7. I hope
we really mean TESTIFY and not interview. The lead question must be when did you first become aware of these events? And then are there other instances of this manner occurring in other areas of detention around the world that you are aware of? I specifically use the term "aware" because that can eliminate disclaimers such as have not "read any reports" or have not "received any reports" on this matter. He needs to be cross-examined by a real prosecutor.

19. There you go, plc.
Nail him down. Have hard questions requiring CLEAR answers. Watch him squirm. Watch him parse his words, twist the sentences around to suit him.

He thinks he's a genius at getting out of tough questions, because he's had so many years to practice his lying skills. And he thinks he's so slick that no one else notices.

WE ALL DO.

And one more thing, notice how he "doesn't do apologies". He's leaving that one to the rest of us Americans.

14. Testify
From the Latin, and related to the custom of swearing truth on certain precious body parts. This included gripping said body parts firmly while giving statements before the court. Which made it hard for women to give sworn testimony, I'm sure.

Try working up a mental image of Rummy "testifying". You know, toga, etc.

18. I like Rumbutt's answer....
". any American who sees the photographs that we have seen has to feel apologetic to the Iraqi people who were abused and recognize that that is something that is unacceptable and un-American."

Any American...except bush, powell and me..has to feel apologetic to the Iraqi people. In their case, any of their adminstrative lower mouth peace have to feel apologetic to the Iraqi people. That's why they sent low class darkey Condi, the maid, to apologize.

25. ?
Will anyone ask him why according to toady Scotty that the Resident didn't know about this until he read it in the Media? If the Resident wasn't informed as claimed Rummy has to be fired. If Rummy says that Resident was informed before the rest of us heard about it that makes Scotty a freakin' liar.
