WASHINGTON (AFP) - US President George W. Bush (news - web

and does not believe he should resign, White House spokesman Scott
McClellan said.

Asked whether the president thought
Rumsfeld should quit in the wake of the
scandal over the abuse of Iraqi prisoners by
US troops, McClellan curtly replied: "No."

Asked whether Bush still had faith in his

12. It's mind-numbing isn't it?
The list just gets longer and longer-
the OUTRAGEOUS things the Cabal has
done and continues doing on a daily basis.
All the while taking no responsibility and insisting
their actions are in our best interest...
There are no words to describe the situation.

14. Personal responsibility/accountability, buck stops here, etc.
I just called my senator's office and asked that she demand the pResident's resignation. Since he won't take responsibilty, won't stand up for accountability, and is brushing aside the buck when it comes his way then unless he fires someone, he should resign.

18. Rumsfeld should be fired if he doesn't offer his resignation
US torture of prisoners/detainees began in the public forum with John Walker Lindh. The written obscenity over his blindfold, his nudity, the Special Forces posing with their "souvenir" for photos were standard operation procedure from the get-go, and Rumsfeld's knowledge of all this but refusal to do anything about it because he was too busy to check on a "rumor" gave a carte blanche to our military to continue the behavior. And they did. Now the 1AD is extended beyond its 12 months because Rumsfeld's cavalier attitude toward security have pissed off the entire Muslim world.

http://archives.tcm.ie/breakingnews/2002/04/13/story46355.asp

...as part of a written court filing, Lindh’s lawyers last month released a picture of him in Afghanistan, blindfolded, strapped to a stretcher and naked. Defence officials have said that while that photo may have appeared shocking, it was taken out of context because he was naked as part of his preparation for medical treatment.

In the newly-revealed incident, Lindh has an obscene, derogatory word written across his blindfold, a senior defence official said.

The Pentagon has repeatedly limited the media in the kind of photos it can take of prisoners from the war in Afghanistan on the argument that photos subjecting the prisoners to humiliation violate Geneva Convention provisions on treatment of prisoners.

The photos troops took of themselves with their prisoner were found when the Pentagon did a computer search for documents and other materials ordered by the court hearing charges against Lindh, another official said.

Existence of the photos were first reported on CBS Evening News, a television programme.

Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld said he did not know if the photos were being held at the Pentagon and that he hadn’t seen them.

‘‘You know, there’s hundreds of detainees, and about every day somebody says something,’’ he said in response to reporter’s questions.

‘‘I guess if you ask me when I got up in the morning - and we’ve got people being killed in the Mideast and we’ve got a war going on in Afghanistan - if I am going to change my schedule and go chasing after rumours on things like that, it’s unlikely,’’ he said in impromptu comments in a Pentagon hallway.

22. you're right except
that will result in Bush being sanitized. The press will say - "see, he is a great leader who makes tough decisions." I don't want anybody to fall on their sword to protect the boy king. Let the buck travel all the way to Oval Office on this one. And it should. He and the rest of this maladministration spent years building up hate against Arabs and Muslims through lies and innuendo. He demonized them and used words like "evil" to describe them and suck up to his fundie base. They constantly linked Iraq to 9/11 and urged revenge against the "terrorists". Of course, they were abetted by the somnolent American media who dutifully parrotted every lie and innuendo. How else do you explain that a solid majority of Americans believe that Iraq was linked to 9/11 and that WMD have been found? This is on * and the rest of his criminal cohorts. They goaded basically good people into committing atrocities. Since * obviously have no conscience or sense of responsibility, we can expect his criminal conspiracy to round up a few scapegoats to take the fall. And he will probably get away with it since the corporate media can be relied upon to quietly let it drop. And don't get me started on the use of mercenaries and "contractors" to mask the horrible lack of planning for post-Saddam Iraq.

21. No, they don't want him to resign. Look at what's happened with ...
those who've resigned from this misadministration. And in Rummy's case, he might cut a deal with the prosecution.

23. Oh, so that's why none of them get fired.
I've been wondering that for about 3 years. It seems that no matter how incompetent or negligent they are, they still have their jobs.

So they're afraid of what they might say.....

24. He's loyal to the Bush clan.
That's all they require. So I doubt he's going anywhere.

But, in the unlikely event Rummy is forced to step down, it'll be Friday.

26. I'd venture to say...
If Bush would encourage Rumsfeld's resignation, Rumsfeld has a folder about 10 feet tall with information that would come out and Bush would be finished. That's why I think Bush wont pass the buck to Rummy, anyway.
