West getting burned by global warming
FLAGSTAFF, Arizona (AP) -- Just outside this mountain town, where the acres of ponderosa pine turn into a Christmas green blur, Tom Whitham eyes the weary, struggling forest.

Death is everywhere. Their limbs bare and bark brittle, the trees quickly turn this forest into an aching reminder of the devastation of drought and a massive bark beetle infestation.

Whitham pulls his pickup truck over and gestures to the dead trees -- 75 percent in this area alone.

1. Interesting article. But...
have you considered posting it in the Environment forum? Things move so quickly in Breaking News that lots of people might not get to see it....

4. Flagstaff will be part of the Medicine Wheel this Sat., May 8
Don't mean to hijack this thread. It's too true and too important.

But for those who are interested -- and we can discuss it elsewhere -- there will be a massive Medicine Wheel Ceremony this Saturday, involving people of all colors and spritual traditions -- All are Welcome -- and Flagstaff is one of the key points on the Wheel.

The intent of the Wheel is to directly address the imbalance so powerfully portrayed in the the news story that started this thread.

------------------

All Systems Are Go for the May 8 Medicine Wheel
-- Envelops All of Western America --

With less than a week to go, the entire, vast Medicine Wheel Ceremony set for May 8 is set to go forward. This unprecedented gathering will encompass the American West, and completely envelop the Rocky Mountains.

It will involve traditional Native American peoples in cooperation with people of all other racial, national, and spiritual traditions in a unified effort to help re-establish the health of the Earth.

Locations and contacts around the American West -- and in many other places around the world -- have been set. Dozens of people have come forward to serve as contacts and facilitators. Many thousands of people are expected to participate.

6. And the article quotes Frontiers of Freedom as a expert source
Frontiers is the right wing think tank environmental attack dogs. They are a driving force for keeping foreign drugs out of this country, they put out position papers saying mercury levels in the water is just fine and they attack every single environment report issued.

So these guys look at the dead trees and say these things happen.

I hate republicans.
