Florida town to use surveillance cameras (on everybody)
"One of the nation's wealthiest towns will soon have cameras and computers running background checks on every car and driver that passes through.

Police Chief Clay Walker said cameras will take infrared photos recording a car's tag number, then software will automatically run the numbers through law enforcement databases. A 911 dispatcher is alerted if the car is stolen or is the subject of a "be on the lookout" warning."

4. Next time you go through....
they'll do a background check on you for daring to drive on their streets. Better hope your income is high enough to satisfy their criteria for using their roads, or you'll end up in jail for driving while poor.

7. Wasn't the "Truman Show" town in Florida?
Creepy...

...and how, exactly, is the town allowed to use its spycams on a state highway: A1A, the main drag through Manalapan, which is just south of Palm Beach (a/k/a the Graveyard of Democracy)? Not that Jeb! would ever voice an objection to a nice little fascist plan like this, but...

15. You know your point has always had me asking questions too.
If we are innocent until proved guilty, then why when we are arrested, but presumed innocent, do we have to post a bail to get out of the jail? I've never been arrested; however, I've never understood why an innocent person cannot just give their word they will be back for their hearing. Also, if we are presumed innocent, then how can they keep someone in jail until their hearing date?

I know the difference between felonies and misdemeanors; however, if we were presumed innocent until proved guilty, no matter what law we are accused of breaking, then we should be set free.

If this were the case, murderers, rapists, and child molesters, would be set free, and would never show up for their hearings.

So why don't they change it as guilty until prooven innocent, because that is the way that everyone is treated . . . whether you've created a misdemeanor or a felony.

PS Highway Patrol Pulls Scanner Request
April 20, 2004

Confronted with concerns about the Big Brother aspect of digitally scanning license plates at the speed of light, the State Highway Patrol pulled a request for $61,000 to put the equipment on the Ohio Turnpike.

The scanners could give law-enforcement officers instant access to information such as registrations and arrest warrants.
The patrol wants to use federal Homeland Security funds to buy four automated license-plate recognition devices from an Italian
company.

But members of the State Controlling Board yesterday had some questions, such as how much information would be gathered and how it would be used.
Board members also had concerns about buying the system from a foreign manufacturer rather than an American company.

The patrol plans to get some answers and resubmit the request.

17. "Homeland Security Funds"....That says it all.
A little 12-member volunteer fire department in Podunk, Indiana (pop. 476) gets a 1.2 Mega-buck "First Response Vehicle", and Ohio gets spy equipment for use on the Public highway, yet NYC has to close firehouses and lay-off or delay hiring new Firefighters...

PORK! the OTHER Funding Source!
