Cheered by Dancing Supporters, Gaddafi Storms EU

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Cheered on by African drummers and dancing supporters, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi took another big step toward international respectability on Tuesday when he visited European Union headquarters.

European Commission President Romano Prodi broke with protocol to welcome Gaddafi personally at Brussels' Zaventem airport, where the Libyan leader, dressed in a red fez hat and gray-green sweeping robe, descended the gangway followed by female guards in dappled blue camouflage uniforms.

Waving portraits of Gaddafi, more than 200 singing, dancing supporters organized by an obscure Arab-African Immigrant Child Support Committee, staged a colorful pro-Libyan demonstration outside the European Commission building as the two leaders arrived in a white stretch Mercedes limousine.

One over-enthusiastic Gaddafi supporter, dressed as a security man, caused a scare when he tried to present a letter as the Libyan leader and Prodi shook hands for the cameras inside the building. Belgian security guards hustled him away.

like twenty years from now, OBL, then leader of former Saudi Arabia, will be marching into the white house, after letting the United States sign some new oil deals?

Oh those old days, when all terrorists had a mess of curly hair and came from Libya! When those whacko tribal leaders in B-Movies were Ghaddafi look-alikes!

Anybody who would have pretold the return of the prodigal Ghaddafi would have been called a political loon.

He was always the guy in the military uniform. Now he's traveling with a band of former dead heads and dressing in robes and fez hats?

no longer an Arab country but and Afrucan State? Maybe his new found hippydom is part of this.
