Al Gore lends help to Bill Nelson's re-election fight
Source: St. Petersburg Times

Al Gore is urging people to join Sen. Bill Nelson in fighting to overturn Florida's controversial new voting law -- and implicitly asking supporters to aid Nelson's re-election campaign.

"... I'm so glad that Senator Bill Nelson has spoken out loudly and clearly against these latest voter suppression tactics, calling on Gov. Rick Scott to work to repeal Florida's new voting law while urging the Department of Justice to investigate the erosion of voting rights nationwide," Gore writes in an e-mail. "But these are the kinds of fights where a big public outcry can make a huge difference -- so we need to stand with Bill Nelson.

The e-mail has several links to Nelson's campaign site, which asks people to support his effort to turn back the voting changes. A prominent red button on the page seeks campaign donations.

"Look, I've known Bill Nelson for many years," Gore writes. "He's always fought against the reckless right-wing agenda and efforts like this outrageous campaign to silence American voters. He is one of a few Southern Democrats still standing in the United States Senate, and remains a champion of the rights of Americans across the country -- including voting rights. And I know he won't ever stop fighting for what's right."

1. Kicked and recommended, from an article re; the voting laws, Nelson is fighting

http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/the-buzz-florida-politics/content/nelson-continues-offensive-against-new-voting-laws

Sen. Bill Nelson today sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder asking for an investigation into whether "new state voting laws resulted from collusion or an orchestrated effort to limit voter turnout."

"The Department needs to determine whether or not there was broad-based motivation to suppress the vote - and, if so, whether any laws were violated," Nelson wrote.

Nelson, facing re-election in 2012, has been hammering at the laws since Florida enacted its months ago. The law, which is being challenged in court, cuts early voting days and limited voter registration drives, among other changes. Nelson's full letter below.

Nelson's actual letter to Attorney General Holder is on the link.

Thanks for the thread, Freddie Stubbs.

2. Sen. Bill Nelson...
...fighting for HIS job.

If he fought as hard for mine,
I would be willing to send him a few bucks.

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their excuses.
