City takes first step in plan to remove Occupy L.A. encampment

Signs posted at Los Angeles City Hall on Thursday warned Occupy L.A. protesters and others against staying in the park overnight, but police said there were no plans to evict people from tents on Thanksgiving night.

The signs, which note that the 1.7-acre park’s hours run from 5 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., went up after city officials made it clear in recent days that they want Occupy L.A. demonstrators to ditch their encampment at City Hall by next week. The group has been living in tents outside City Hall for nearly two months.

The Los Angeles Police Department released a statement online saying that officers had no plans to evict protesters on Thursday and that the signs were “being posted in preparation for next week.”

Earlier this week, an aide to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa would not say what day the city plans to close the park — or exactly how much warning protesters will be given. But during a meeting Wednesday with several protesters, the aide, Deputy Chief of Staff Matt Szabo, said they would receive "ample notice."

1. Isn't that special?
He allowed Hispanics to flood the streets in peaceful protest several years ago, even though it brought LA traffic to a standstill and caused all sorts of problems. Where were the riot police, helicopters, and pepper spray back then?

Meanwhile, a protest by people of ALL races against the 1%, which isn't even hindering traffic, must...end...now.

A corporatist AND a racist. Charming fellow. I guess he's working hard to outdo Jean Quan as Biggest Douchebag Mayor of 2011.

These Democrats are severely disappointing me.

Many others could be added to that list. Mr. O is waiting to see if OWS will gain or lose him votes. If this was happening in Egypt he would have already picked a side.

3. If you're talking about the labor rally - it was one day
and there were police in riot gear a few years ago. THey've been trying to make up for it since then.

I'm waiting to see how the eviction is handled - pepper spray and swat teams or dialogue.

Viarigosa is many things - I had high hopes for him. But calling his a racist? I've not seen any proof of that.

5. He's no democrat. Watch the film "The Soloist" for mention of what he did with the money and to the
homeless.
