Britain sends officials to Libya to help destroy chemical weapons
Source: The Guardian

Britain is sending officials to Libya to help the government to investigate the scale of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's secret chemical weapons stockpile, retained by the Libyan dictator in breach of promises made to the international community.

The size of the stockpile – including mustard gas – suggests Gaddafi totally misled Tony Blair when he promised to destroy weapons of mass destruction in return for being brought back in from the diplomatic cold in 2004.

The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons reported a week ago that the National Transitional Council had informed it further stocks of what are believed to be chemical weapons had been found.

Foreign Office sources suggested the weapons stockpile was much larger than had been thought, and covered more than one site.

BTW, the UK already has oil concessions granted by Gaddafi.

The NTC have said that they will honor oil contracts signed by Gaddafi.

Try some facts - it is very illuminating, and eliminates bias.

6. Gaddafi oil sales were rife with corruption
and most of the money went to Gaddafi's family and his tribe and favorites.

Gaddafi was worth $200 billion - the RICHEST man in the world.

And as one Libyan pointed out, he did not get rich by making computers (Microsft, Apple, etc) - he got rich by hogging all of the money earned from oil sales for himself. In fact, it has been stated that finding all of his money hidden in different countries may be easier because he did not differentiate between himself and Libya. 40% of Libyans lived in poverty, while Gaddafi's kids spent $2million dollars a month each. And some owned private jets, property in other countries, etc, etc.

And Libya SELLS the oil - how on earth can Libya allow any country to STEAL its oil?

And the government of the countries to whom Libya sells oil makes no effing difference. Libya controls the money and the contracts.

So, PLEASE, the Libyans are going to do much better now that Gaddafi is gone, and that is all that matters to them - and your opinion is annoying to them and that is all.

7. Well your posts don't present anything that provides me with anything of fact.

I see no information that you have posted here that gives any backing whatsoever of your so called fact. Personally, I would rather see an opinion given, instead of the so called fact that we see on DU. Many of the (factual) references that are given here, do not meet the litmus test, frankly.

8. I have summarized what I have learned from months of following
two separate blogs on Libya.

Just name the "fact" that you would like to see, and I will try to find the source, but it is not up to me to waste too much time digging up those articles.

Google the following:

"Gaddfi oil corruption"

"Gaddafi richest man in the world"

"Tracking Gaddafi's assets"

"Mutassim's girlfriend's interview - about how much he spent per month"

"40% poverty Libya"

etc.

When I have a question about a statement, I google to validate it for myself.

11. I really don't care how he plundered them, whats important is did he have support
amongst his people? The answer is that 70 % approved of him and 30 % did not. Probably because the 70% knew nothing else, but none the less they apparently liked to be abused.

12. Actually, your figures are wrong, and you don't cite a source.
10-15% approved of him.

If you think the uprising could have succeeded with 30% disapproval, you are sadly delusional.

How the hell could Tripoli have fallen as fast as he did, if that was true.

And I don't think one needs facts with a stated opinion, since I wasn't stating my post as fact.

13. So, they're going to "safely" burn a WHOLE bunch of horrifying chemicals inside Libya?
Remember Gulf War Syndrome? Multiply it by infinity.
