Gaddafi's son says he is innocent
Source: Reuters

Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the fugitive son of Libya's toppled late leader, told the International Criminal Court he is innocent of alleged crimes against humanity, the court prosecutor said on Saturday.

The court, based in The Hague, has said it made informal contact with Saif al-Islam, the son of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, and is seeking to arrest him and bring him to trial on the charges stemming from Libya's civil war.

The International Criminal Court Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo said the contacts were through intermediaries, and Saif al-Islam maintained he is innocent and wants to understand what could happen to him if cleared of charges.

"There are some people connected with him that are in touch with people connected with us, so we have no direct relation; it's through intermediaries," Moreno-Ocampo said in a brief interview after arriving in Beijing, where he is attending a law conference.

2. Our only knowledge of this subject
is claims made by what is now the NLC in Libya.

Its up to the ICC to determine his guilt or otherwise - its called a trial.

4. Drones will not allow him to go to trial.
We'll have some young "gamer generation" man in Nevada "flying" his game-like drone, to erase this guy before he gets to trial.

Too many "state secrets.":nopity: :puke:

9. Saif Gaddafi was a public figure before the revolution started.
Everything from his ghost written PhD thesis to his admission of torturing nurses in the HIV trial to running Libya's secret police.

If the NTC wants to give him a trial, I've got no problem with that.

11. He didn't torture nurses and he wasn't running Libya's secret police.
You can't just pull propaganda out of your ass. There's got to be at least something to it for it to work.

12. ICC's Ocampo: "substantial evidence" against Gaddafi son

Sun Oct 30, 2011 9:01am GMT

BEIJING Oct 30 (Reuters) - The prosecutor for the International Criminal Court (ICC) said on Sunday he has "substantial evidence" that Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of Libya's toppled leader, was involved in organising attacks on civilians and hiring mercenaries.

Luis Moreno-Ocampo also said he met Saif al-Islam several years ago, and Saif al-Islam had backed the ICC's efforts to arrest Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir over alleged genocide and other crimes in Darfur.

"We have a witness who explained how Saif was involved with the planning of the attacks against civilians, including in particular the hiring of core mercenaries from different countries and the transport of them, and also the financial aspects he was covering," Moreno-Ocampo told Reuters in Beijing, where he was attending an academic conference.

Moreno-Ocampo then clarified that he meant he had multiple witnesses, and not just one.

14. Is this supposed to show he tortured nurses and ran the secret police?
I don't see it. Hired mercs? Like Qataris, for example? British, French? Americans?

3. He should move to the U.S.
Conservative Americans seem to have a strange affinity for war criminals...

He could just wrap himself in a different flag and he would be right at home, he would have lots of idle worshipers, and wouldn't have to worry about being prosecuted.

6. They should emphasize to him that the Death Penalty is not an option at the ICC
They abide by international law, and the Death Penalty has been abolished within the terms of International law. So the quicker he turns himself in, the less likely he'll meet his father's fate...

15. Secrets Not Saif: Gaddafi shadow haunts West's dodgy deals
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=fyI7hEg1z0o

The late Colonel Gaddafi's son and key right-hand man Saif al-Islam, has reportedly crossed the border from the Libyan desert into Niger. It's believed he's trying to negotiate a surrender to hand himself in, to the International Criminal Court. If he does eventually stand trial, he could yet spill some of the secrets of the regime's murky dealings, with the same governments that helped topple his father.

graphic video in the beginning but it is relevant to this thread.
