Chris Christie told Meg Whitman last week he's not running
Source: CBS News

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is expected to announce his final decision on whether he will seek the presidency this week, and a report published Tuesday suggests the answer will be the same one he has given dozens of times in recent weeks: No.

The Wall Street Journal reports Meg Whitman, the newly named chief executive of Hewlett-Packard, held a fundraiser for Christie last week on the condition that he not run for president against former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Whitman's preferred candidate.

The newspaper said the former eBay chief and her husband Griff Harsh hosted a dinner for 15 couples Wednesday at their Silicon Valley home, where each couple paid $15,000 to attend. The proceeds were for New Jersey Republicans.

Asked whether he would join the 2012 race, Christie told the diners "no," the newspaper said, citing "a person with knowledge of the event."

8. What he was talking about
Edited on Tue Oct-04-11 10:05 AM by bongbong
He wasn't talking about the GOP (Grand Old Phascists) nomination; he was talking about his usual run to the window of McDonalds. Now he will be sending the state helicopter to get his daily 35 Supersized SuperMeals.

Don't worry, I'm from NJ so I can talk about his Makes-Taft-Look-Slim proportions.

10. Chris Christie Not Running for President
Edited on Tue Oct-04-11 10:31 AM by OhioChick
Source: ABC News

Oct 4, 2011 10:33am

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will not run for president, according to a source with direct knowledge of the governor’s thinking.

By deciding not to run Christie is refusing the pleas of many establishment Republicans who have been urging him — even pleading with him to jump into the race. Dozens of high-level GOP donors have been paying visits to Christie since this spring in the hopes of changing his mind.

But the governor spent months saying the same thing in myriad ways: “no.”

Earlier this year in an interview with ABC News’ Diane Sawyer, Christie said he was categorically not running for president.

I don't get why his decision to not seek a nomination that he already said he wasn't going to is newsworthy, regardless of the talk surrounding his possible entry.

13. Frankly,
what was he going to run on: destroying NJ's public sector, increasing unemployment, annihilating property tax rebates (the lie that he used to fool NJ voters) and raising property taxes, giving tax cuts to the rich and cronyism?

Christie will likely not win re-election in NJ.

26. A couple of things
Edited on Tue Oct-04-11 11:16 AM by ProSense
from the link:

<...>

A Fairleigh Dickinson University PublicMind poll released this morning shows 54 percent of New Jersey voters approve of Christie's performance, while 36 percent disapprove. That's up from a 44 percent even split in May.

<...>

But Christie's strong approvals aren't likely to translate into Republicans winning control of the state Legislature, the poll found. With state legislative elections in November, 46 percent of voters said they'd prefer they remain under Democratic control, while 34 percent would prefer it shift to Republicans. While all 120 seats are up, there are only a few districts where either party can win. Democrats also went a long way towards ensuring they retain control when they prevailed in redrawing the legislative district map.

<...>

Christie's approval has been all over the place, swinging between 10 points based on the polls. He has pissed off a lot of people in the state.

NYT: 18,000 students protest NJ Gov. Chris Christie (w/photos) - updated

Is he kidding? Gov. Chris Christie wants more tax cuts for the rich

Chris Christie Gets Booed At Seton Hall Commencement

That's not to mention his use of the state helicopter to attend his kid's game and going on vacation during a snow emergency. Add the property tax issue.

The approval ratings don't show this, but if Democrats can run a decent candidate, they have a strong chance of taking back the Governorship.

27. Exactly--he would not be elected NJ gov today
So how is that supposed to translate into winning the White House?

Either Karl Rove is orchestrating a big circus to obscure the real mystery candidate he and the
Kochs are grooming away from the media glare, or they are tearing their hair out crying in desperation
for SOME presentable Republican to materialize out of nowhere and seem like a credible candidate.

I can't believe that Rove is so fresh out of ideas as to find himself in this situation, so I think
he's got someone ready to show up to do the trapeze act when the current group of clowns have served
their purpose by keeping the kids entertained for the pre-intermission part of the show.

16. This is a newscycle created by the media for the media,
Christie had said again and again he was not running. Media tried to keep the noise going for a few days (helped by a few people who probably wanted him to run). What is amazing is that some people here and elsewhere ran. Why do we still trust the media.

19. He's too busy
Christie is too busy running for the border to run for Prez. He's got the 2016 date in his power-hungry sights to run for president. And his power-hunger is on the same level as his McDonalds hunger - cosmic sized.

BTW, the border he's running for is the Taco Bell border - that was their advertising theme a few years ago.

22. beware, I smell a Jeb in the Bushes
The only 2 other possible candidates who could enter this late and win the GOP nomination are Marco Rubio (do not sneer, he would be the Obama of 2012) or David Patraeus if there is a massive false-flag terrorist attack, and they run to a military leader solution.

Forget Palin, she can never win. If Jeb, Marco, and a the general do not run directly for POTUS, look for a Romney/Rubio or Romney/Bush ticket.

Chris Christie news conference live - why he's not running for president

From Trenton, New Jersey governor Chris Christie holds news conference to explain his decision not to run for president

1.11pm: "I thought a lot about this, I spent a lot of time," says Christie. "It just never felt right for me to leave ."

1.09pm: Asked if his family was a factor in his decision, Christie said they supported him: "Three weeks ago, at six o'clock in the morning, Mary Pat woke me up and said, 'if you want to run, go ahead'."

Well that's one way of waking up.

1.05pm: Asked about his future plans, Christie says he doesn't want to preclude any future employment.

Much more at link.

I listened to the conference.

Christie said, "This is not my time."

So, I think we may well see him run in 2016 or 2020.

Unless, before then, he finally gets what an unpopular thug he really is.
