Pakistanis Tied to 2007 Border Ambush on Americans

KABUL, Afghanistan — A group of American military officers and Afghan officials had just finished a five-hour meeting with their Pakistani hosts in a village schoolhouse settling a border dispute when they were ambushed — by the Pakistanis.

An American major was killed and three American officers were wounded, along with their Afghan interpreter, in what fresh accounts from the Afghan and American officers who were there reveal was a complex, calculated assault by a nominal ally. The Pakistanis opened fire on the Americans, who returned fire before escaping in a blood-soaked Black Hawk helicopter.

The attack, in Teri Mangal on May 14, 2007, was kept quiet by Washington, which for much of a decade has seemed to play down or ignore signals that Pakistan would pursue its own interests, or even sometimes behave as an enemy.

The reconstruction of the attack, which several officials suggested was revenge for Afghan or Pakistani deaths at American hands, takes on new relevance given the worsening rupture in relations between Washington and Islamabad, which has often been restrained by Pakistan’s strategic importance.

and yes, of course, as you point out, it's the same NY Times in which Judith Miller ran with Bush's false yellowcake story. And somehow, it's supposed to add up, except, 1 plus 2 does not equal 5, even if your headline says it does.

Every US soldier lost in action makes me so angry about this fucking war. It doesn't help matters to have our media advance the M.I.C. agenda of War Forever, For Always. THAT, also makes me angry. :mad:

Most thinking people (such as you and I) hold the media to a fairly high standard; that's all I was doing. It was worth posting, since it was in the NY Times, but it was also worth criticizing and laughing at how transparently pro-war it was, and bad journalism besides. :D :hi:

The ramp up by TPTB to demonize Pakistan is really gaining speed quickly! Next stage will be lots of reports of atrocities by the Pakistan government against their citizens, probably in the New York Times.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Cardinal asked the legionnaires to pray for God's intervention. If Eisenhower wouldn't listen to Spellman, perhaps he would heed the Almighty. "Be with us, Blessed Lord," the Cardinal intoned, "lest we forget and surrender to those who have attacked us without cause, those who repaid us with evil for good and hatred for love."

The day after the convention the impact of Spellman's address was noted in the press. New York Daily News columnist John O'Donnell, for example, reported: "From a political viewpoint-- global, national and New York State--the speech delivered by Cardinal Spellman was by far the most significant and important heard here at the convention....''

Let's punish Pakistan severely.

If Pakistani military/ISI didn't exist, there would be no Taliban and no Al Q'aeda. So let's eliminate the source of terror by destroying all of Pakistan's military assets -- airports, planes, ships, tanks, nuclear installations, power plants and soldiers.

The victory in Afghanistan would be automatic.
