Heckler calls Obama the Antichrist
Source: cbs

The man positioned himself up in front of the stage and started shouting loudly right after Mr. Obama started talking.

The heckler proclaimed that, "Jesus Christ is the son of God. Jesus Christ is the son of God."

"I agree," Mr. Obama said, then stayed quiet as the crowd, after a moment, started chanting "Four more years! Four more years!" and drowned out the heckler.

But, as he was taken away by security, the man shouted, "You are the Antichrist."

19. Burroughs
Edited on Tue Sep-27-11 10:47 AM by bongbong
William Burroughs, that uber-brilliant philosopher, had a great rant about never doing business with a Xtian. "You can't trust 'em!". Xtians, as well as several other religions, always have at least one "out" available so they can do anything they want up to and including genocide.

Out #1 (the common one): "I just tortured & killed 200,000 people, but I asked & got forgiveness from my Savior. Thus, everything is hunky dory & I have no guilt!"

Out #2 (less common): "I heard God telling me in no uncertain terms that I must torture & kill those 200,000 people!"

The evil atheists, ironically, are "required" by their conscience to do good (unless they're psychopaths). This is one of the highest ironies of being human.

Next thing you know somebody will make a regular Top Ten List! Then you'll have to leave in righteous outrage and become a usabee Democrat Republican!

You're right, it's so unlike those good ol' days of the past when nobody would make fun of a conservative whose psychotic rantings were scary because they also sounded mainstream.

12. The guy belongs in one of those institutions that Reagan shut down
He's not suited for community-based treatment. He needs to be isolated from influences of violence and hatred, and his meds monitored much more closely.

I am so fucking sick and tired of the bullshit story that these are normal Americans with legitimate political viewpoints. Calling Obama a monster or a murderer - if you'd lost a child in one of our many wars, this might be justified, if extreme and rhetorical. But "antichrist" - that's simply delusional. It's like calling him, in all seriousness, a Gorgon or an incubus.

Besides, I've been following the fundies for a couple of generations now. Do you have ANY IDEA how many fucking antichrists are out there? Judging by the sheer numbers, apparently every fundamentalist that visualizes a Jesus simultaneously visualizes an antichrist.

37. perhaps Jenkins and LaHaye's lazy Antichrist, who makes the UN into a One World Government
Edited on Tue Sep-27-11 02:35 PM by MisterP
by reciting the names of all the Secretaries-General and all the full members in alphabetical order (from http://slacktivist.typepad.com/slacktivist/left_behind/)
now, some of the major the characteristics of an Antichrist are
1) promise peace but bring war
2) defile and distort everything they touch, being the anti-Redeemer and anti-Messiah/Mashiach
3) behave in a way opposite to Christ
4) work to bring about the end of the world
it goes without saying that 5) a blind, rabid personality cult is a necessity
A combination of the Overton window shifting since the 80s (which places many Dems to the right of Reagan on several issues) and shallow politics (in 1984 people disagreed with Reagan's policies--but liked him as a person, so they voted for him) has produced not only a personality-cult politics that has spread beyond the GOP: just TRY to criticize Obama or Palin in 2009. People were fucking weeping in ecstasy at their new messiah. This fulfills point #5--but it does so for Reagan, Dubya, even the man-baby Beck. Politicults have formed only to defend their Golden Calf from the backlash caused by the candidate's own conservative policies: in isolation from fundamentalism and these "politicults," they would find incinerating Afghans and Pakistanis, or throwing grandmothers onto the street without income. However, political religions like US-brand fundamentalism or "Hope and Change" will excuse and/or justify such things: "Bush is a Godly man: it's good and funny to kill towelheads," "Obama has so much of Bush's mess to clean up," "Obama got bin Laden AND Qaddafi!" "The paparazzi scum are trying to smear Palin's children!"
Now as for the other points, conservatism (GOP and Dem) perfectly fulfills points 1-4. Reagan's pre-Gorbachev nuclear policy actually got pretty #4, and we also can add that he suffered a mortal wound and returned to the public eye after 3 days, and had six letters in each name. The nature of the post-1981 Presidency and US politics (where views outside a narrow band simply go unheard), where war and dismantling of welfare are the norm, where people worship mortals, where , can be said to breed "Antichrists."
The Book of Revelations is of course visionary literature and--above all--apocalyptic literature. It's not to be read "literally" since such a notion is incogruous with non-didactic religious literature. It's a revelation. That being said, however, there are quite many Antichrist candidates running around who fit much of the bill described on Patmos: Presidents Nixon, Reagan, George W. Bush, and Obama, as well as Pat Robertson or even the CheneyBeast, show very high indicators. At the same time--and this is even more important--none of them are obviously the Antichrist. All have prodigious weaknesses, aren't figures of ultimate evil (even Bush signed the anti-telemarketer law), and have very short-term personality cults: Reagan's popularity was largely a 90s conservative fabrication (and he moved toward disarmament), Bush ended up lower than Nixon, and, while many of those hailing Obama's literal omnipotence have now switched to claiming that he has less power than a House page, many more, it seems, have come to see that stadium enthusiasm and rousing speeches are no substitute for actual legislative and executive action, and cannot excuse blatant conservative activism. Rather than seeing these figures as a series of Antichrists manqué, each having their chance and then muffing it, we must focus on dismantling and refusing to vote for militarism, conservatism, and cults of personality.

Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come.

I see four references in my concordance.

What distresses me is that this sad individual isn't aware that Michele Bachmann belonged to a church that declared that the Pope was the Antichrist. Can we pick a horse, please?
