Source: CNN Money

The retailer Macy's announced Monday that it plans to hire 78,000 temporary workers for the holiday season.
Macy's said this is an increase of 4% from last year, when the retailer hired 75,000 seasonal jobs.

"We expect additional hiring this year given the continued sales growth in our business, both in-store and online," said Macy's Chief Executive Terry Lundgren.

4. You do know...
that pretty much all retailers, even Walmart, hire more people for the holidays, right?

10. Yep
And this is the perfect way to demonstrate what really creates jobs: consumer demand, not tax-cuts. We see it every year, and yet the talking points remain the same...

15. What does being a good citizen have to do with this?
Macy's is hiring 4% more holiday workers than last year because Macy's anticipates more business than it had last year, given the degree that its sales have increased so far this year.

12. Hmmm... probably not
since the republicans have the people over a barrel now more than ever after the newest round of union busting and still their rich puppet masters are whining about having to pay Americans more than the 3rd world slave labor they can hire. No, they've forced us into silence. Thanks for your support, tho.

7. In how many stores ? How many on-line sales and order fulfillment jobs?...
do most of them realize their last day of work is December 31, and they will get NO health insurance, NO benefits, only a few hours of paid sick leave after a month or two?

No day care, nothing, .........Macy's serfs.

9. 78,000 Part Time, Temporary, No Benefit, Minimum Wage jobs...
Edited on Mon Sep-26-11 05:37 PM by SoapBox
but I guess that will give the folks a few shillings.

And, as the article stated, last year was 75,000 hired...4% more this year.

It may/will help those folks for a short time...but how about giving us something else Macy's...make
several thousand of those jobs permanent, full time, with some benefits.

That would be a real big Christmas present.

14. It's a net gain of about 3,000 jobs from last year.
Last year they were "Part Time, Temporary, No Benefit, Minimum Wage jobs". If the jobs only last for a few months there are good reasons why they are "Part Time, Temporary, No Benefit, Minimum Wage jobs." Give Macy's a break. The alternative is that they don't hire at all.
