Obama Slams GOP’s Booing Of Gay Soldier: ‘That’s Not Reflective Of Who We Are’
By Igor Volsky on Sep 26, 2011 at 9:13 am

At a fundraiser in San Jose on Sunday, President Obama slammed Republicans for jeering Stephen Hill, a gay soldier who asked about the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell during the GOP presidential debate in Orlando, Florida:

"Some of you here may be folks who actually used to be Republicans but are puzzled by what's happening to that party. I mean, has anybody been watching the debates lately? You've got a governor whose state is on fire denying climate change," he said, to applause. "It's true. You've got audiences cheering at the prospect of somebody dying because they don't have health care and booing a service member in Iraq because they're gay.

"That's not reflective of who we are," Mr. Obama said. "This is a choice about the fundamental direction of our country. 2008 was an important direction. 2012 is a more important election."

10. Excellent Theme!
Do we want to be led by people whom represent people whom not only proudly deny science and eschew rationality but also cheer on executions, want people without health insurance to just die, and/or boo soldiers over their sexual orientation? Are these the kind of people we want to have choosing our SCOTUS and lower court nominees? Are these the kind of people we want making and, more importantly, enforcing our laws? Anybody whom can't see the fundamental differences between the two parties, particularly after three GOP debates, is just not looking hard enough IMHO.

13. Gee Whiz. I guess there is a choice next election after all now that Rethugs have dropped pretense.
Republicans according to debate believe that all Government is corrupt and inefficient.

Government should be funded by those who are not in real ownership.

The wealthy and ultra wealthy should pay as few taxes as possible.

It is fine for some to shout in public for the death of those you hate or just dislike. (If repudiated it will be done several days later never when it happens)

Finally Republican supporters who comprise the lower 80% are stupid beyond measure and will buy anything without thought.

14. Good. This is what is needed.
Call out the Republicans for their assholery on every possible occasion.

With the end of DADT and the spreading of marriage equality, slow as it is, people are becoming less amused by the anti-GLBT rhetoric from Republicans. Calling them on their stuff is a good campaign strategy.

People like Aunt Mabel, who usually votes Republican but dotes on her gay nephew or lesbian niece, the only ones who bother to visit her, is the target here, among others.

16. But...
....denying gay people the right to marry (and get all the legal\tax benefits that it brings) IS exactly who he is....

You cannot be a 'sometimes' supporter of gay rights.

18. It's shame that the pro-gay McCain/Palin ticket didn't win, isn't it?
Why can you not be a "sometimes" supporter of equal rights? Most people are right some of the time and wrong some of the time.

But maybe you'd prefer someone who is wrong all of the time instead?

that is exactly who they are. And it's about high time you recognized it. They hate you too. They hate you because you are black. WAKE UP!

19. At least he talks a good game
I've been really disappointed in the way he has been dealing with the Republicans in Congress who are trying to destroy the economy so that their electoral chances are good in 2012, and he is far too nice to them. As angry as his weak negotiating with the Reps makes me, I'm probably going to vote Obama in 2012.
