Wall Street protesters arrested during march through New York

By Ray Sanchez
NEW YORK | Sat Sep 24, 2011 6:50pm EDT

(Reuters) - Several hundred marchers wound their way through the streets of lower Manhattan on Saturday in the latest of a string of protests over the past week against what demonstrators saw as corporate greed on Wall Street.

The demonstrations, participants said, were meant to criticize a financial system that they believed unfairly benefits corporations and the rich. They said the protests were inspired by demonstrations in Egypt and Spain.

The marchers carried signs spelling out their goals. "Tax the rich," one sign said. "We Want Money for Healthcare not Corporate Welfare," read another.

- snip -

The demonstrators were mostly college-aged marchers carrying American flags and signs with anti-corporate slogans. Some beat drums, blew horns and chanted slogans as uniformed officers surrounded and videotaped them.

7. Yeah, I posted a link to the live feed
in the latest breaking news category,
but the mods saw fit to move it to the "General Discussions: Presidency" category.

I have repeatedly asked them why, but still no answer.

I am NOT amused with DU at this moment!

11. There are specific rules for LBN posts.
The rules are clearly spelled out in bold type when you elect to post in LBN. No blogs, twitter, or the like. Sadly, we must still endure Huffington Post, where everything, no matter how mundane or whimsical, is breathlessly heralded in their usual tabloid fashion.

3. They need support Urgently!

If you are in NYC Go! If you can't hound the media..... the corporate media is trying to sweep this under the rug. The MSM are the un-American ones and the cops are enabling their thuggery. The video link below is heartbreaking.

The pickets are in the fence that separate the tee box from the fairway on the 8th hole.

19. He CAN'T do that -- a POTUS interfering in a State/City matter?
He'd be shredded, and they would use it as more ammo that the Dems want to control the States.

Do you think half of what they spout during their election runs is actually do-able? I know you know better than that!

20. only a state/city matter on the surface
with regard to the police tactics. What he needs to address is the underlying causes that the protesters are out there for. His leadership is needed to clean up monied interests, off-shoring of jobs, relief for home-owners, student debt etc. Lets see who he really works for.

22. It's my hope that's what he's doing. A few times I've been
hollering at him for being inactive, only to find out he was working on the stuff we were screaming at him about -- just didn't include us in the loop until there was something to report.

About this, though -- Geithner makes me nervous, so don't know how it'll go.

29. Agree - and yeah, he COULD, but even that would open him (and us)
up to more of their condemnation and hysteria.

It's amazing that they, like the other terrorists, have won. They've got us running scared.

15. Right now, the cops are moving vans in -- seemingly preparing for arrests
Please, everyone, follow this on the livestream at http://www.livestream.com/globalrevolution. The number watching has been hanging at a little over 7000 for the last while, but the more eyes that are on this if a police riot does come down, the better.

Whatever happens, though, this doesn't end here. As of this morning, there were already 33 spin-off events planned for various locations -- some immediate, some scheduled for October 6 or 8.

And we all know our basic Star Wars quotations -- right? "The more you tighten your grip, the more star systems will slip through your fingers."

16. The cops could definitely bring more attention to the protests.
If I were one of the police commanders I might be urging breaking it up and arresting them just for that reason. Teabaggers don't get arrested protesting but Wall Street protesters do? Might be a good thing.
