GOP: Obama regulations are killing jobs
Source: USA Today

The Republicans used their Saturday radio address to attack the Obama administration over federal regulations they say are preventing businesses from hiring more people.

"Business owners are reluctant to create jobs today if they're going to need to pay more tomorrow to comply with onerous new regulations,"said Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine. "That's why employers say that uncertainty generated by Washington is a big wet blanket on our economy."

Collins said federal agencies are working on more than 4,200 new rules, and 845 of them affect "small businesses, the engine of job creation."

Business people support government efforts to protect health and safety, Collins said, but too many employers are currently "buried under a mountain of paperwork."

Even so-called "moderate" Republicans are embracing the talking points in order to appeal to the crazy right. And who can blame them? The right wing is always given a free pass, and the American people have been conditioned to blame Democrats.

23. yeah, how's that working
I thought little boots did enough deregulation-so what's the excuse now? As I remember it, little boots said his friends could police themselves and since they believe in profit over people, I doubt they care who they harm-we can be the next cesspool of the world. Global corporations could give a damn if they crap in your backyard.

How about you idiots- all those tax breaks you gave the rich and infamous has not created jobs. That they have SAT on the loot or have sent it overseas-that they care more about their bottom line than this country. And regulations actually do create jobs, probably more decent jobs than what your corporate masters want to give us.

4. Lying again. The tax cuts and corporations moving out of the country is what's killing jobs
Even the small business owners say it actually affects them little. Demand is what controls their hiring. And, no, it's not the immigrants fault. They helped build this country, pay taxes and BUY things, too, don't forget. Don't let them brainwash you.

Yes to the millionaire tax.
Yes to more taxing the companies that move offshore.
Yes to less taxes for companies that stay and create jobs in this country.

5. Usual vague promises from the GOP.

Get rid of regulations and we'll see a hiring bump. Lower taxes and you'll see a hiring bump. :eyes: But several waves of deregulation and tax reductions preceded the general economic meltdown.

8. The unreccers must not like this one! Too much exposure of GOP stupidity.
Of course, what GOP repug wants to go by the rules, especially if it made for a more fair and equitable playing field for businesses? GOP can't win anything on a fair playing field.

9. I just hope that the entire world wakes up to the fact that conservative policies kill folks.
I am hoping and hoping for a leftward shift globally.

Harper, Sarkozy, Cameron, all of them out of work.

Murdoch, too. (Hey, I still can dream.)

10. BS ...
They said they same thing in 1993 when Clinton raised taxes on the wealthy - We went on to reduce the poverty rates to the lowest levels ever recorded and the creation of 20 million jobs ...

This is a sham argument .... Collins should be ashamed ...

13. Tax breaks for the elite and outsourcing are killing jobs.
Tax breaks kill jobs by being paid for by cuts to programs for the lower class. The lower classes are forced to spend more money on subsistance than economy boosting spending.

Outsourcing sends jobs out of the US, which also sends money spent within our economy out of the country.

We can create a massive explosion of jobs in this country within 5 years that would make Clinton's numbers look pathetic. All we have to do is bring balanced trade tariffs back.

The Clinton years are history .... They were pretty good years for most people, statistically speaking, no matter what anybody wants to say about it ... I happen to agree with fair trade policies and believe Clinton made a mistake supporting most of the free trade legislation passed in the 90's ...

11. Blah blah blah
And where were these hypocrites when the bush administration allowed 2 million plus jobs leave the US? Surely a republican would ensure that everything was in place to enable jobs to grow, as if on trees.

17. "...American people have been conditioned to blame Democrats."
That is 100% true! It will take a decade or more to try & reverse that type of thinking...And it is almost impossible when Democrats are attacking Democrats along side Republicans instead of taking a page out of the GOP handbook & sticking together & fighting for change a little at a time. It does not matter what Democrat is POTUS we cannot change this country in 3yrs!

18. You mean like filing an emergency plan for your deep-water ocean rig?
How much paperwork is it worth to maybe save eight lives?

And how about that mining accident a few years ago? Would ending regulation of the mining industry have saved those lives?

I think not.

These claims about too many regulations are always vague. Let's see precisely which regulations business wants to get rid of and why and whether those specific regulations save lives or just cause money.

Environmental and safety regulations would have to be invented if they didn't exist.

20. they're lying....
"...attack the Obama administration over federal regulations they say are preventing businesses from hiring more people."

....lack of customers and demand for their products is preventing businesses from hiring more people....a Republican crashed economy and ensuing lack of jobs is preventing businesses from hiring more people....Republican resistance to stimulus measures that put money into peoples' pockets is preventing businesses from hiring more people....Republican generated instability in financial markets is preventing businesses from hiring more people....a lack of creativity on the part of business is preventing businesses from hiring more people....predatory capitalism is preventing businesses from hiring more people....

....federal regulations won't prevent businesses from hiring and no federal regulations won't inspire businesses to hire....federal regulations don't buy goods and services....

21. The last administration was a laboratory for conservative theories...
Conservatives claim tax cuts and deregulation create jobs.

The Bush administration, when it wasn't busy creating casus belli for unprovoked invasions, worked very hard on deregulation and tax cuts. If the conservatives were right, the "official" unemployment rate would be zero and only the long-term unemployed, and the unemployables, would be jobless. We'd also have a budget surplus that makes the Clinton surplus look like nothing, and there wouldn't be a nickel of government debt in foreign hands.

If that ever happens, let me know.
