Murdoch paper hacked minister's voice mail: sources
Source: Reuters

(Reuters) - Rupert Murdoch's News of the World hacked extensively into the voice mail of a minister in Britain's former Labour government, according to three people familiar with the matter.

The unauthorized access to voice mails left for Denis MacShane in 2004 and 2005, as he served as Minister for Europe, is one of a handful of cases to surface involving a serving government official in the phone hacking scandal that has engulfed Murdoch's News Corp.

A private detective hired by the weekly tabloid, which was closed by Murdoch in July as controversy over phone hacking allegation raged, hacked the voice mails left for MacShane, according to the three people familiar with documentary evidence held by British police.

MacShane remains a Member of Parliament, representing the city of Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

1. ...and the hits just keep on comin'!
The word 'engulfed' accurately describes the predicament in which ol' Rupe now finds himself. Here's hoping the momentum carries his problems across the pond and creates problems here as well. So far, 'honor among thieves' in the corporate media does not allow for open discussion of News Corp problems, but once there's blood in the water, media sharks will feed with gusto.

3. Perish the thought!
Sure, Murdoch might indulge in a little bit of chicanery over in England, but he'd never e-e-e-e-ver subvert the government or the process of his adopted country! He's fair! And balanced! And stuff. Besides, if we don't investigate, there will never be any evidence. So who are you going to believe? Your lying eyes or the solemn assurance of Rupert Murdoch or one of his flunkies?

5. Aside from the single unsubstantiated allegation by the Mirror Group
concerning 9/11 there is nothing whatsoever to indicate that anything of this nature has occurred outside of the UK with regard to this enquiry.

4. The serious issue here
is that presumably information must still be leaking out of where the Met is based - Scotland Yard.

For the benefit of anyone not UK as so not necessarily familiar with the NOWT - they had always thrived on stories on who was fucking who and that seems to have been why it was our biggest selling paper.
Don't really say a lot for the UK does it. There had been other similar stories on the "hacking" subject of which it had already been stated they didn't go to press because the origin of the information was a bit iffy.
