5. Fools.
We're forced to bring civility to justice. It's sad that we have to do this.

And like is being reported on Democracy Now, we really wouldn't want a President Perry reviewing cases like this.

I'm full of disgust for the state of affairs.

Now what?

19. I am not sure if the President has anything to do with this.
Edited on Wed Sep-21-11 10:06 PM by No Elephants
The Presidential pardon power extends to crimes against the United States.

This is crime under state law, not federal.

As I said, I am not sure, but the wording of the Constitution seems clear.

20. I know. But look at the supreme court after the bush admin.
My point is we can't take any more hits from the right. I'm not talking about the Troy Davis case. From what I've heard, even the Gov. of Georgia couldn't offer a stay.

7. Will rank with the slavery affirmation decisions, and Sacco-Vinzetti
But it's not like the court is truly legitimate. If the people had their way, at least three of those justices would be sitting in jail. I think now we can extend that to whomever voted to kill this man.

Enjoy hell, Mr. Kennedy.

Thought they said that on the Democracy Now channel. If so, maybe the 2 justices Obama put on were more mistakes..

31. NO.
The votes of the justices were not released,
and they never will be.
No one will ever know which way each justice voted.

There is no way that Democracy Now would know what the votes were.

16. I would have thought that Sotomayor and/or Kagen would have wanted to
publish a dissent in this case. There is no excuse for this. Of course the main blame goes to the justices who were in the majority on this case, but I can't forgive Sotomayor or Kagen either for not going on the record against this (or Ginsburg or Breyer.)

where courts just don't want to admit the errors or react to new evidence. It is apparent to me that an innocent man was executed. It's not the fault of Davis that all the evidence staring them in the face was repeatedly ignored. If you do a search you can find all the evidence of innocence.

I have been trying to find out if the court was split or not. All I can find is that the court released w/o comment. Part of me is wondering if it was unanimous. I figured it would be a five to four.

from being destroyed because he thought he won, and how could he possibly walk away a loser... But they can't protect this man's rights... Ok people. Have you had enough of the Patriot act, and it's many layers of secrecy. I say we get rid of the patriot act and install the rule of law-The United States Constitution....

53. As with Obama, Troy Davis's contributions sound forth the trumpet !
He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment-seat:
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet!
Our God is marching on.

(Chorus)
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Our God is marching on.

-- Julia Ward Howe, The Battle Hymn of the Republic

--------------------------------

Troy Davis showed great courage. Barack Obama did the same thing choosing to run for office.

There's no shortage of KKKwannabes.

I'll cut Obama all the slack he needs... avoiding a Wall Street or Oil Biz assassination.

36. Interesting. The Supreme Court delayed this for three hours.
Just long enough for most of the protesters to lose steam (perhaps hoping for the best outcome) and go home. Then the execution goes off with little protest, no riots or tear gas or splashy headlines.

Useless. Wrong. Foolish. Uncivilized. Barbaric.

Troy is the axle in a wheel. We are the spokes. We are all suffering for this. We are all being punished by an unjust system.

I get the feeling the Supreme Court justices just gave brief moments of thought before deciding. Probably on a napkin over a dinner table. Thoughtless and careless.
