Bachmann predicts a GOP win in California in 2012
Source: LA Times

GOP presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann on Friday predicted California would side with Republicans in 2012, a distinct improbability given voting registration trends and recent history in the Golden State.

"I'm here to announce to you tonight, we will take our country back in 2012 and together we will make Barack Obama a one-term president," Bachmann told about 400 people at a dinner at the California Republican Party convention.

"President Obama's numbers are the lowest they have ever been and I'm just here to say they haven't hit rock bottom yet. I think Election Day in 2012 will probably be the lowest they are yet, that's why I know … that we have got a message and we have got a winning streak," she said. "I firmly believe 2012 will be a blowout election…. I believe 2012 will be a wave election that goes all the way across the United States, it will even take in the Golden State, I am so excited."

Bachmann's comments notwithstanding, a recent USC/Los Angeles Times poll showed Obama with expansive leads over the major Republican candidates, including Bachmann. The last Republican nominee to win the state in a general election was George H.W. Bush, who eked out a narrow victory over Democrat Michael Dukakis in 1988.

9. All the West Coast Tea Party Caucus members are from CA
Wally Herger (CA-2)
Tom McClintock (CA-4)
Gary Miller (CA-42)
Ed Royce (CA-40)
So it did not entirely pass CA by, the nuttery.

13. McClintock has been around for ages
so has Wally Herger. Miller is in his 7th term. Ed Royce has been in Congress since 1993. They may be caususing with the Tea Party but they didn't ride in on the wave of newly elected Tea Party people. We didn't get any new ones.

20. They are 'official Tea Party Caucus Members'
I am familiar with all of them. I am a California native. I live here in Oregon now, and fact is we have Republicans, but none who steep the tea, and that's not nothing, it took hard work to keep it that way. So I do have to stress the difference between none and 4. I will also note that 'they may be' is a tad edgy, the Tea Party Caucus has a website that lists the Reps who have officially singed on with them. Those 4 are part of the Tea core. So 'they may be but' that they are.

22. CA has voted for the D presidential candidate since 1992, but keep Nixon and Reagan in mind.
Edited on Sat Sep-17-11 08:19 PM by alp227
last time it voted R was in 1988 with Vice President George H.W. Bush, and CA voted Bush's boss Reagan (governor of CA, 1967-1974) in both 1980 and 1984. CA voted for Ford over Carter in 1976. And for Nixon, who represented part of Orange County in Congress, in both 1968 and 1972. However, in 1932, CA picked FDR over CA native Herbert Hoover.

19. The only way a Republican wins CA is if they nominate
a moderate from CA. Seeing how the only moderate Republican left in the wild (Schwarzenegger) is ineligible for the Presidency, and suffered a recent scandal, good luck with that.

23. Michele Bachmann also believes she's going to be on the general ballot
It's not outside the realm of possibility for a Republican to win California. But to beat Obama in 2012, it would have to be a very moderate Republican, or someone who could play one on TV, from California. The batch of pukes who are running now probably couldn't win Orange County.

24. CBS News tonight featured Bachmann's speech
in a piece about how Obama's support in California is eroding, and how the state may be in play in the 2012 election.

Since California elected no Republicans to major statewide office last year, I found the report a bit specious.

California's political landscape may evolve over the next 14 months, but I seriously doubt any Republican candidate has a chance to win those electoral votes.

Like the elections will be rigged? Diebold?
Voter suppression?

Sorry Michelle- California knows we are in the
situation we are because of the GOP.

Some of us DO remember Arhnold's meeting with Enron
in Santa Monica before he was conveniently installed
as our governor with the help of Issa's fake petitions
through out the state.

George Schultz, dear friend of GWHB and the BFEE was the first
member of the PTB to endorse his nomination.
Nuff said.
