Republican leaders oppose most of Obama's jobs plan
Source: USA Today

House Republican leaders are objecting to many of Obama's jobs proposals, while the White House attributed GOP criticisms to politics.

"The question for the Republicans is, why do they think doing nothing to help the economy now is an acceptable answer?," said a statement from White House spokeswoman Amy Brundage.

In a Friday memo to all House Republicans, GOP leaders came out against nearly all the major proposals in Obama's $447 billion job-creation plan, including his middle-class tax cuts and his approach to federal spending on transportation and school construction.

The Republican leaders said cutting payroll taxes through 2012 would lead to a tax increase in 2013 -- an argument that didn't deter Republicans from a much bigger, 10-year tax cut in 2001 that was extended last December but is set to expire on Dec. 31, 2012.

The 112th Congress once again is going to earn its reputation as the worst in history by sitting on its hands as the ranks of the unemployed continue to grow. Of course, the corporate media continues to run interference, thus while people might hate Congress, they think their individal representative is fine. Finally, the corporate media generally refuses to call out Republicans for doing absolutely nothing! Instead, Republican action is blamed not on Republicans, but on President Obama's failure to convince Republicans!

So, the crazier Republicans act, the more they benefit, as people blame Democrats and President Obama.

The problem with this corporate media dynamnic, which stretches back to Bill Clinton, is that Republicans are rewarded for their bad behavior because they are not held accountable for their own actions or inaction. We blame Democrats and give Republicans a free pass. In other words, why should Republicans lift a finger when they know that with the corporate media's help, the American people will blame a Democratic President. Indeed, the incentive is for Republicans to actively sabotage the economy while they remain safe behind the Blame the Democrats narrative.

This is why Republicans could shut down the government and waste time impeaching Bill Clinton. This is why Republicans almost shut down the government, then almost defaulted under President Obama. The Republicans know that with Fox News driving the corporate media narrative, they generally won't be held accountable. Thus, Republicans can even vote against their own proposals, because the American people will not notice.

Come on now - do you really believe this?

Wasn't there the same kind of negativity around amongst the Republicans with respect to Bill Clinton?

You don't think they'd be pulling the same tactics if Hillary was president?

8. I do believe it. That's my privilege.
It's unspoken in most cases, but is the constant undercurrent.

11. Tax cuts in effect for 10 years caused millions of jobs lost, companies awol, deficit booming.
Wake up dummies. The GOP wants to keep you dumb as dirt...that's why no educational funding available, teachers being let go, school books being rewritten with bs propaganda to make these crooks look good, schools being privatized, etc etc etc. What the hell will it take to shake you up enough to become outraged enough to vote them OUT of office??? That means go to the polls and vote AGAINST them. FOX is brainwashing you as is every other media source owned by Murdoch, Kochs, big pharma, banks, private prison promoters, on and on. Republican governors firing union workers and replacing them with prisoners so they don't have to pay them. They just knock off time for good behavior. These are child molestors, robbers, rapists, and murderers and they are cutting deals with the prison boards for $$$$$$$. I can't say it enough...WAKE UP DUMMIES! Get your asses out there, speak out and VOTE! The tax breaks that will lapse are on the extremely wealthy ONLY. If they are allowed to continue they will only cause more job LOSS and a BIGGER DEFICIT! For GOD's sake...do your homework! Republicans are trying to redistrict, change voting laws, force us to vote on the easily-manipulated electronic voting machines, change electoral college rules so they can continue the Bushco legacy of taking this country into oblivion. What are you thinking to allow this to go on????? I am totally amazed at the lack of caring and patriotism for this country I am seeing. You are just plain brainwashed.

13. what's to not like?
over half of it is tax cuts and jobs go to Panama and Columbia. It sounds like a Republican wet dream. Oh, I guess teachers having a job is no good. What we need is a bill where teachers are chained to oil derricks and forced to work there for $4 an hour. Then we can get some bi-partisan support and have the worse bill possible rather than just a plain old bad bill.

14. We give them a free pass? What are we supposed to do about them?
Seriously. Any concrete suggestions for those who DON'T live in an area with a tea party nutcase to oppose, or who are already doing that?

When they break the law, what can we do to get law enforcement to ENFORCE the law? They usually get a free pass there until they start shooting, and pretty much everyone in the system that makes those decisions is OWNED.

When they cheat on elections, what can we do to get the invalid elections discarded, and proper ones held with honest equipment? Who gives a flying copulation about recounting the defective voting data anyways?

When they exceed, sometimes wildly, the scope of their powers as an elected official, what can we do to force the appropriate branches of government to act against them BEFORE the damage is done?

So far, the only answer I've found is that we can encourage the people in power who are supposedly on our side - that is, elected Democrats and the occasional independent, to use the power which, although they might or might not have, we certainly don't.

Or, in simpler terms...

They're batshit crazy. Right? Why, then, are we pretending that their politics somehow justifies leaving them in power? Why aren't they simply institutionalized long enough to be medicated properly? What do we have to do to get from HERE to THERE? And without some relativistic nonsense that says they have an equal right to define us as crazy.

I can't think of anything to do about Republicans that's legal. It's either blatantly illegal and inappropriate (summary executions) or reserved for some authority that is failing (prosecution and imprisonment). Reasoning is useless. Voting seems useless. Talking people who support them in exchange for money (i.e. jobs) into not supporting them is useless.

Seriously... how do we quickly, legally, remove crazy people from positions of power and responsibility? Never mind their politics.

17. Make Sure They Don't Get Elected In 2012, Look At The Right Wing in 2010
The right flooded town halls and gave Democrats hell, then mobilized to get out the vote. Yet, on the left, there seems to be this sense that the left cannot do anything about right wing wackos, so instead focus on tearing down Democrats. I see posts like yours all the time about folks on the left saying that they can do nothing about Republican wackos. I only wish the right felt the same as Freedom Works mobilized buses and Fox News ran PR campaigns to keep the heat on Democrats.

It a double standard that the corporate media has encouraged. The right should primarily focus on beating Democrats while the left should focus on sitting out the next election. Indeed, back in 2010, DU was filled with posts from folks proudly announcing that they would not vote Democratic, because they were just too left for the current candidates. I expect we will see more of the same in 2012.

To me, this just shows how there is a different narrative being pushed for the left versus the right. The right is trained to win elections. The left is trained to boycott elections.

18. Can't cut taxes now because that will be an increase later
Wow...

I hope the White House finally learned something about the GOP from the debt ceiling debate. The GOP is not afraid of strangling the country as long as they can benefit politically from it.
