Approval of Congress Matches Record Low
Source: NY Times

Congress faces historically low approval ratings as it wades into the debate over the $447 billion jobs package proposed by President Obama, with just 12 percent of Americans now approving of the way Congress is handling its job, matching its all-time low, recorded in October 2008 at the height of the economic crisis, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.

Voters are slightly more disapproving of the Republicans in Congress than they are of the Democrats, with just 19 percent approving of Republicans, compared with 28 percent that approve of Democrats.

Republican voters are more dissatisfied with their party’s representatives than are Democrats. Half of Republican voters say they disapprove of Republicans in Congress, while 43 percent of Democratic voters say they disapprove of Democrats in Congress. Independents are slightly less approving of Congressional Republicans than Congressional Democrats.

Only 6 percent of registered voters say that most members of Congress have earned re-election, while 84 percent say it’s time to give someone new a chance, a historic low for the New York Times/CBS poll. Dissatisfaction with Congress runs deep across both parties, with more than 8 in 10 of both Republicans and Democrats saying it’s time to elect new representatives.

Slowly, the truth is beginning to dawn on Americans that the 112th Congress is the worst in history. This is not an exaggeration. Various historians have begun to comment on the truly history nature of the current Congress's dysfunction. This dysfunction is primarily due to the expressed goal of Congressional Republicans to deny President Obama any sort of victory. In other words, they are trying to sabotage the country for purely partisan purposes to the point where they would even vote against some of their own proposals such as the creation of a deficit committee early in the Obama presidency, which they had originally sponsored. There are honest disagreements, and there is playing games, and Republicans are not even trying to govern right now.

The question is whether the public will hold Republicans accountable or reward them for once again doing their best to sabotage and shutdown the goverment for partisan purposes. They did it under Newt Gingrich when they pissed away time during the federal budget fiasco, then wasted time in impeaching Bill Clinton. The current 112th Congress puts the Gingrich Congress to shame with some House members eagerly cheering for the U.S. to default. Of course, the only reason the Republicans do this, is because they think that the American people will blame the Democratic president, and not hold them accountable.

1. MSM should be pushing THIS story: Congress threatened by rout of incumbents in 2012.
Not how Obama is in danger for re-election.

4. You're right, of course.
But the media is so geared toward emphasizing the shortcomings of democrats while at the same time playing down the faults of Republicans and their corporate overlords.

Even in the face of this overwhelming dissatisfaction toward congressional Republicans they continue to insist on being obstructionist.

I believe this indicates that something is afoot in regards to the 2012 elections, something we aren't fully aware of. I believe that "something" is plans for massive election fraud and voter suppression on a scale never before seen in history.

It was painfully obvious which side the media was on during the Bush v Gore controversy. I'm sure any election irregularities will again be explained away as sour grapes or "sore losers".

At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater."

3. Surely no Congress representing the interests of the people would ever receive less than a
50+% approval rating. That the misfeasance and nonfeasance of this Congress cannot be overstated or exaggerated would seem obvious. Of course when one party's allegiance is largely given to an individual rather than to the country, this is not surprising. Sadly a 12% approval rating is not likely to change the behavior/agenda of a single member. :patriot:
