Pessimism Rises as 72% See U.S. on Wrong Course
Source: Bloomberg

Americans’ pessimism about the economy has deepened and confidence in both political parties has fallen with only 20 percent saying the country is on the right course even as they remain divided over solutions.

Just 9 percent of people say they are confident the economy won’t slide back into recession, in a Bloomberg National Poll. A majority says it will take at least six more years for home values in their community to recover to pre-recession levels.

“This country is going downhill,” says Glenn Davis, 53, a political independent and a factory worker from Lafayette, Indiana. “For regular people like me, it’s hard to get ahead.”

Americans are sending mixed signals on the path forward, according to the poll, conducted Sept. 9-12 by Selzer & Co. of Des Moines, Iowa. While they embrace the need for tough prescriptions to cut the federal deficit, including scaling back entitlement programs such as Social Security and increasing taxes on the wealthy, they balk at many specific spending cuts.

2. This poll is way off
Yeah like Bush was heading us in the right direction.

We have green jobs and peace across the globe. I can't understand why these polls are so screwed up.

4. Remember, few knew what deep doo we were in until shortly before Bush exited office.
As far as jobs and peace across the globe, though, no comment.

5. The polls are screwed up because then are generated for a predetermined outcome.

Don't believe most polls. Be suspicious of election results that don't quite sound right, i.e., Republican upsets in normally Democratic areas.
The conservatives have no morals at all, except when it comes to your private life and any life in a woman's uterus.

7. Is it too late for politicians to take polls like this to heart?
Of course, that assumes the poll is valid. I don't know if it is, one way or the other.

9. Oh how I agree that I am pessimistic...but...
I DO feel that our country is on the wrong track!

- so-called "wars"...Iraq started as a complete lie and paid for off budget but get chalked to the deficit.

- no taxes mantra for billionaires and multi-billion dollar corporations.

- free trade which simply means, ship all jobs out of the country.

- restrictions on women's reproductive rights.

- voting restrictions.

- legislated hate (immigrants, LGBT, etc.)

and it goes on and on.

YUP! I think the country is on the wrong track and the GOPBaggers / T.Haters are to blame.

10. That's the all time dumbest poll question....
I (and other Democrats) believe the country is on the wrong track because the Publicans in the House are obstructing anything and everything in an effort to make President Obama look bad. Teabaggers believe the country is on the wrong track because there's a black family in the White House. There's your 79 percent, and the others just don't give a flyin' fuck.
