Gunmen 'kill five children' in attack on Pakistan bus
Source: BBC

Gunmen have ambushed a school bus near the north-western Pakistani city of Peshawar, killing at least five children, police say.

The driver was also killed and 19 other children were wounded in the attack in Matani town about 20km (12 miles) south of Peshawar, police said.

The area is close to Pakistan's volatile tribal areas where Taliban militants are active.

But so far no group has said it carried out the attack.

2. Pakistan's Taliban claimed responsibility
(Reuters) - Pakistan's Taliban claimed responsibility for an attack on a school bus on Tuesday which killed five people, saying the children on the bus were from a pro-government tribe.

The attackers fired a rocket-propelled grenade and AK-47 assault rifles at the vehicle in the northwestern city of Peshawar, killing four children and the driver. Eighteen people, including 15 children, were wounded, police said.

The Pakistani Taliban, seen as the biggest security threat to the government, have become more brazen since their ally Osama bin Laden was killed in a U.S. raid in Pakistan in May.

4. No, not Cowards. I post this from Apocalypse Now often:
KURTZ
"I've seen horrors...horrors that you've seen. But you have no right to call
me a murderer. You have a right to kill me. You have a right to do that...But
you have no right to judge me. It's impossible for words to describe what is
necessary to those who do not know what horror means.
Horror. Horror has a face...And you must make a friend of horror. Horror and
moral terrorare your friends. If they are not then they are enemies to be feared.
They are truly enemies. I remember when I was with Special Forces...Seems
a thousand centuries ago...We went into a camp to innoculate the children.
We left the camp after we had innoculated the children for Polio, and this old
man came running after us and he was crying. He couldn't see. We went
back there and they had come and hacked off every innoculated arm. There
they were in a pile...A pile of little arms. And I remember...I...I...I cried...
I wept like some grandmother. I wanted to tear my teeth out. I didn't know what I
wanted to do. And I want to remember it. I never want to forget it. I never want
to forget. And then I realized...like I was shot...Like I was shot with a
diamond...a diamond bullet right through my forehead...And I thought:
My God...the genius of that. The genius. The will to do that. Perfect,
genuine, complete, crystalline, pure. And then I realized they were
stronger than we. Because they could stand that these were not
monsters...These were men...trained cadres...these men who fought with
their hearts, who had families, who had children, who were filled with
love...but they had the strength...the strength...to do that. If I had ten
divisions of those men our troubles here would be over very quickly. You
have to have men who are moral...and at the same time who are able to
utilize their primordal instincts to kill without feeling...without passion...
without judgement...without judgement. Because it's judgement that
defeats us. "

8. I just think "Coward" is the wrong word.

The 9/11 hijackers weren't "cowards", either. Though they get called that a lot. Hiding in plain sight taking jet piloting classes in the country you're planning to attack takes balls. Killing a stewardess with a boxcutter in front of a 100 people takes balls. Driving a plane into a building at top speed takes balls. Cowardly is just the wrong word to describe committing a political terror attack.

Sociopaths, fanatics, murderers, monsters, sure. They all work. But they're not even afraid of the judgement of Allah for killing innocents.

Here's the definition:

cow·ard/ˈkouərd/Noun: A person who lacks the courage to do or endure dangerous or unpleasant things.

Committing that horrific act is certainly unpleasant, and it takes a twisted kind of courage.

7. Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack
The children were targeted in the Matani area close to Pakistan's northwestern tribal belt, which the United States considers the most dangerous region on earth and an Al-Qaeda headquarters.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack saying it was the work of their Khyber chapter.

Bombings by Taliban and Al-Qaeda-linked networks have killed more than 4,630 people since 2007, destabilising the nuclear-armed state.
