KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Terminal B at Kansas City International Airport was closed Sunday after a suspicious device was detected at a security checkpoint.

Airport spokesman Joe McBride said the device was detected at a checkpoint at Southwest Airlines. The road at Terminal B was closed.

"At approximately 9:30 a.m. CDT, security personnel at Kansas City International Airport (MCI) discovered a suspicious item located in carry-on baggage at the Southwest Airlines checkpoint. Out of an abundance of caution, the checkpoint was closed and the surrounding area was evacuated. Local law enforcement and EOD are on the scene," according to a Transportation Security Administration statement.

"A customer was proceeding through security checkpoint. A TSA representative asked to open the customer’s carry on bag. The customer refused and the customer was taken for further questioning," said Chris Mainz of Southwest Airlines.

5. My chiming in...
Oh I'm very sure that TSA saw something...

They see "something" every day. Unfortunately, it's nothing truly dangerous or bad.

Most of that "show" at the airport is just that. There are SO many people and SO many (freak'n) bags of shit coming into the concourse. The only true way to be secure is by the body scans (now being done in some locations) and a physical search of the possessions.

The key words to this article, indicate the usual big drama over nothing...It's doubtful that you would be able to find any follow up regarding this.

Again, it makes for BIG show.

8. When I fly out of Mexican airports...
all my stuff, everything, is handsearched. Many airports have military in them watching your every move. If you look weird, or act "suspiciously," you'll get a secondary search.
I rest so easily when I fly out of there.

3. And it continues
It was probably a vibrator. LOL! All this shit over a false flag attack. I guess we'll never go back again will we. Too many people believe the "official" story. And anyone who questions it is considered a nut.

4. Last Year at National
My husband and I were at the Security Checkpoint at Washington National last fall putting on our shoes. We heard the TSA agent say to another passenger, "Sir, is that a baton in your bag?" And the guy responded, "It's a massage stick, I travel with it all the time."

When we were clear of the area, I started laughing hysterically. My husband was highly amused as well. The agent seemed like he was highly suspicious of this passenger all over an adult toy.

Suspicious item at KC airport not a bomb, FBI says
(2011-09-11)
(Reuters) -

By Kevin Murphy

KANSAS CITY, Mo (Reuters) - Kansas City International Airport fully reopened Sunday afternoon after being partially shut for nearly six hours while authorities examined a suspicious carry-on bag that turned out not to contain explosives.

Terminal B in the three-terminal airport was closed at about 9:30 a.m. local time after bag-screening agents saw a suspicious item or device in a bag a man was attempting to carry on to a Southwest Airlines flight, airport spokesperson Joe McBride.

"He was not being cooperative," McBride said of the passenger.

The FBI and airport police bomb technicians later dismantled the bag but found no explosive materials, said FBI spokesperson Bridget Patton in Kansas City. She declined to identify the item found in the bag.
The passenger was taken into custody for questioning, McBride said. He was still being held as the airport reopened, but McBride did not know whether he would be charged.

7. I remember an incident like this years ago.
Edited on Sun Sep-11-11 05:30 PM by LongTomH
A passenger was traveling with a video game in his bag. It showed up on x-ray, so security took the bag out and blew it up. The passenger got his luggage back in a dustpan, along with a stern talking to. Something like that is probably what happened here.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A former New York City police officer was detained Sunday at Kansas City’s main airport after security screeners detected suspicious items inside his carry-on luggage, a local official with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press.

The official, who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to share the details with the media, said the man had worked for NYPD for a short period more than a decade ago. The security scare happened Sunday morning on the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The man was stopped about 9:30 a.m. at the Southwest Airlines checkpoint at Kansas City International Airport. Transportation security agents who detected suspicious items in his bag asked to examine them, and he was detained when he refused, airline and law enforcement officials said.
