By Joseph Morton

WASHINGTON — Sen. Mike Johanns took aim Thursday at the Obama administration's penchant for new regulations.

The Nebraska Republican said the administration has proposed 54,000 pages of regulations in 2011, at an estimated cost to businesses of $69 billion.

"These folks love government," Johanns said during his weekly conference call with reporters. "They believe government is the savior of everything, and it is a big, wet blanket on our economy and it's preventing job creation."

Johanns on Thursday introduced three pieces of legislation aimed at removing regulatory burdens on businesses.

1. $69B? Is that all? With several corporations profiting several billion each year, $69B is nothing.
That is just a few days in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This is more Republican misdirection and false outrage.

2. GOPBagger = Jackass
...ya...

We've seen what happens during that tired old "self regulation" by business.

In fact, when there are regulations, they just ignore them anyway, ending up
in pollution and death (mine cave in's for one.)

Hey Mr. CONservaTURD, STFU.

4. Johanns is full of shit, I was in NE when he was elected, he's nothing
more than a GOP bagman.

They chose him to do the slam because the rest of the GOP Senators have been pilloried in their states.

9. The price of no regulation: Chronic health diseases, respitory problems, cancers...
...and the mounting possibility of irreversible climate change that could render the planet largely inhabitable, effecting every human being (and animal) on Earth. You know, small stuff like that.

12. Oh, please, Louise. How could they know how much it costs business. Even assuming the number
is correct, it's a drop in the bucket.

What would the cost have been if the FDA did not refuse to allow Thalidomide?

The real problem is that government is so cosy with business that no department does it job for the people anymore. Now, they're accomplices paid by us to put our lives and health at risk.

14. Price of lax regulation - $3 trillion and counting.
Of course, that cost is being imposed on regular folks, not the rich who Mike Johanns chooses to represent.
So that is no problem for him.
