Federal Authorities Probe Possible Terror Threat Around 9/11 Anniversary, Sources Say

WASHINGTON – DEVELOPING -- Federal authorities have come across what they believe may be a credible threat to the U.S. homeland surrounding the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, several sources tell Fox News.

The threat would target New York City or Washington, D.C., sources said. Authorities have obtained what they believe is information on possible suspects tied to central Al Qaeda, but they have not necessarily determined names of possible suspects.

According to a senior U.S. official with knowledge of the threat, "People are aggressively pursuing leads,” and it is "specific enough to elicit worry." Another senior U.S. official stressed the threat is still “unconfirmed” so it is being chased down and investigated.
President Obama has been briefed on the seriousness of this threat, according to a senior administration official

"It feels more than aspirational," one official said. The FBI and Department of Homeland Security were drafting a bulletin Thursday night to send to local law enforcement across the country.

Yeah, I know the only link right now is Fox, but came across this in an online "news bulletin," and it does seem to be "developing." Evidently, they're debating in DC whether to raise the "threat level" for this one...

Here we go again....

1. I say We've BeenTerrorized Enough by Our Own Government
The FBI, the CIA, the NSA, the DEA, Immigration, local SWAT teams in training, and of course, the M$M, The Dancing Supremes, the Banksters, did I forget anybody?

Let's just chill out on the terrorism, turn off the orange light, pull the plug on all these thugs, and have a quiet autumn.

2. apparently you don't live in NYC or DC, where these threats hang over good people's heads
every day. You're right that elements of our own gov. are/have been/can be a threat but the terror threat is still real in these cities.

6. I lived in Detroit, during the riots

I still live in Michigan, home of Timothy McVeigh, remember him? Aryan nation?

In Ann Arbor, stomping ground of the Unibomber.

Too ancient? How about the Underwear Bomber? That's more recent.

These are real threats, which our government is unwilling or unable to address. Instead, it ships guns to Mexico that end up killing more innocents and put two nations at risk. And strip-searches grandmothers in wheelchairs.

Too many grandmothers, kids, and other law-abiding citizens are having their rights abridged by the paranoia of a thug-based economy and government. Too many of my neighbors: Asians, Muslims, blacks, are hassled because they exist and can be distinguished from white bread.

No, I'm not impressed by the paranoid's perceived threat. Not when every other "threat" has been a government-funded setup for the mentally unstable and subpar

sorry, but please. The Unibomber injured two people- comparing that to the two WTC bombings is an insult.

10. There are hundreds if not thousands of ways you are more likely
to be killed in both DC and NYC than by terra attacks.

I'm far more worried about traffic patterns in the DC area than terrorists.

4. Another source, MSNBC
Terror threat called 'credible' for 9/11 anniversary

WASHINGTON — Federal officials are investigating a credible threat surrounding the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, NBC News reported Thursday.

"As we know from the intelligence gathered from the Osama bin Laden raid, al-Qaida has shown an interest in important dates and anniversaries, such as 9/11," the Department of Homeland Security said Thursday in a statement obtained by NBC News.

"In this instance, it's accurate that there is specific, credible but unconfirmed threat information," the department said. "As we always do before important dates like the anniversary of 9/11, we will undoubtedly get more reporting in the coming days. Sometimes this reporting is credible and warrants intense focus, other times it lacks credibility and is highly unlikely to be reflective of real plots underway.

"Regardless, we take all threat reporting seriously, and we have taken, and will continue to take all steps necessary to mitigate any threats that arise. We continue to ask the American people to remain vigilant as we head into the weekend."

An administration official told NBC News the threat "so far" was a 5 to 6 on a scale of 10.

BBC News just mentioned it live here in the UK on tv news.

edit to add :

'Credible threat' warned on weekend of 9/11 anniversary.

The United States Department of Homeland Security is warning of a "credible threat" in advance of the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

While no specific details are available at the time, a statement from DHS said "it's accurate that there is specific, credible but unconfirmed threat information."

run with it right AFTER Obama's speech...(no time for any spin/reaction to his proposals)

11. Yet if the news came out prior to the speech
we'd be blaming the media for stealing his spotlight. The timing presents a no-win situation.
